Northwestern Fall 2011 Transfer Thread

also, when was your app complete & ready for review?

Just regular mail, and I didn’t receive any emails about the rejection either. I called them a few days ago to add my name to the list of people who needed their admissions notices asap. Like a lot of other NU transfer applicants, I was working with deadlines from other colleges to accept/decline offers. Oh well, good luck to the rest of y’all!

what were your stats? to which school did you apply?

ohosain posted his/her stats in the NYU thread.

Stats:

 • Transferring from the College of DuPage, Illinois
 • Was previously enrolled at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign as a freshman
 • Entering as Junior
 • GPA: 3.8 college / 3.6 hs
 • SAT 680M/610V (old version of SAT)
 • 51 units completed

Subjective:

 • EC’s: Finance Club, Muslim Students Association, VP of Student Council (HS), Sunday school teacher, Tutor
 • Essays: Damn Good
 • Letters of Recommendation: One from my high school guidance counselor, and the other from my college speech professor

Anyhow, good luck at NYU! It’s a phenomenal school and I’m sure you’ll love NY!

Not trying to frighten anyone but the 2 rejections up to this point are applicants from community colleges. In my NU transfer information handout, it says 90% of NU’s transfers come from universities and the other 10% from community colleges. Take it for what it’s worth.

ooh what else is on that handout? haha. is it online??

i guess that’s good for those of us from 4-years, but kind of sad for the rest  i’m still just crossing my fingers

Not sure if it’s online. It was given to me by an admissions counselor during my campus visit in January.

Some other notable information on the handout:

-The mean cumulative GPA of admitted transfer students is 3.7 on a 4.0 scale.
-Slightly more than 50% of admitted students transfer after their first year.
-100-150 students enroll per year (195 accepted of 1225 applicants last year)

From their website:
-Strong applicants have completed course work across the full range of the liberal arts and sciences (not just in selected disciplines) prior to applying.

I also have that handout. I don’t think it is online. On campus only. It also said that the average transfer gpa was 3.7. I think it will be slightly higher than this because of the increased number of applicants.

can those of you who received decisions(accepted or rejected) post if you sent your final transcript in?

transfer98765, I submitted my application late March and received an email saying it was ready for review about a month later, so end of April.

monacle, I applied to Weinberg.

08302011, Yes, I sent my final transcript.

I had a 4.0 from saint louis university with a few ec’s. I applied to the weinberg school with a 32 on my act, and my major is biology. I had pretty good letters of rec so I think that helped. I did not send in my final trascript, but they said in the admissions letter to get that in as soon as possible. Hope this helps and good luck to all of you guys!

Did you apply as a rising sophomore or a rising junior?

thanks thaboss, that’s helpful! congrats! will you be attending?

[What a Class! : Northwestern University Newscenter](What a Class!: Northwestern University News)

i can sense them sending my rejection letter already… at least we havent been rejected yet right?

well after doing some research, about 2,200 freshmen enrolled in may of last year, but after the “summer melt” only 2,127 were enrolled. so if 2,149 are now enrolled… that number should drop by 2,100 or lower (right??)… so maybe it’s actually a good thing for us transfers. i’m not sure if i’m understanding the whole yield process right, but i think this is okay.

anyway, i’m just sitting at home hoping every truck i hear outside is a fed-ex!

im not really sure the freshman will really affect the transfer class all that much actually, the numbers are really scary, but it seems like the same amount of space is available no matter how many freshman get in, right?

that being said, there will probably be a spike in the transfer numbers also, which does affect us…

the number of freshmen who enroll always affects transfer apps. it’s almost always the case that the more freshmen enroll, the less transfers are taken.

sorry. i meant to say that if the number is approximately the same as last year, even though the percentage is different, then the number of transfer students admitted and enrolled should stay somewhat consistent as well

i realize my point was not really communicated at all, i apologize
