Northwestern Fall 2011 Transfer Thread

For people applying to Medill, this year (starting fall 2010) there are two transfers (both sophomores). I think there’s a few people who transferred in from other schools, too, it really just depends on how many students transfer out of Medill.

Applying to Weinberg for English
URM-Puerto Rican
3.3 High School GPA
1900 SAT (1080 M/V)
3.65 LAC GPA (25 credits)
3.89 CC GPA (47 credits)
Excellent Letters of Recommendation
Average ECs
Well-written essays
Was rejected for last fall

Don’t like my chances one bit but I applied again anyway.

Will transfer applicants not hear anything until May? I finished my application in early January so I didn’t know if I would hear from them sooner or not. If anyone knows please reply. Thanks.

When I applied last year, I didn’t get my decision until early May. I didn’t hear anything from NU from the time I applied until the time I received my letter.
I believe they make decisions on a rolling basis after the transfer deadline in the order that the applicants completed their applications. I could be wrong about that but that’s how it seemed to work out in last year’s transfer thread.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I won’t lose any sleep over it. NU is kind of a stretch since I am transferring from community college and I’ve already been accepted to a local (and cheaper) 4 year with transfer scholarships. It just depends on how financial aid with NU turns out I guess.

Good luck to all who apply. NU seems like a great school for any major if you can pay for it.

I hope I receive my decision in early May, however some received their decisions at the end of June. That would be a nightmare!

Can anyone chance me? The website said successful candidates have B averages. I have that. But that seems low for a < 20% acceptance rate.

3.43 GPA after 1 semester at top-tier LAC
challenging classes (principles of econ, IR, 200-level poli sci)

3.74 HS GPA cum laude
29 ACT

2 years employment as political consultant on chicago north shore

LoR from former Northwestern professor (from whom I earned an A last semester)
LoR from Northwestern grad employer

good essays
visited campus

will be submitting app in ~2.5 weeks

Should I even bother? My numbers are very low, I know.

Currently a freshmen applying to enter fall as a sophomore economics major

University of Texas at Austin

Work: Marketing Intern

Ace, your credentials are very impressive.

I’m just worried for the final grades (which I don’t know if I can keep up) which are important for NU from what I hear.

And looking at last year’s transfer thread, you get your decision based on when you send your final grades, not necessarily your commonapp. So that’s where my worries lie.

Can anyone confirm or deny that it’s easier to transfer as a poli sci major than pre-med, journalism, etc.?

^I spoke with a representative from NU and he told me that the WCAS accepts more transfers than any other school because of its size in comparison to the others.

Has anyone already submitted their application? (I haven’t)

I will submit mine by the end of next week.

Submitting mine in a couple of days.

I submitted mine in early February.

Question about transfers: does Northwestern have a preference to people who intend to transfer with one year of undergraduate work at a another 4-year institution behind them than one who has two years completed?

I ask this, because I will have completed two years at a 4-year institution by the fall 2011 quarter. I’m applying to WCAS.

I’m new to CC, by the way. Whether or not this question gets answered, this thread has been very helpful. Thanks!
