Northwestern Fall 2011 Transfer Thread

Well… -__-

I talked to the transfer director the other day and she basically said rolling admissions basically mean you will not be penalized for submitting your application later than someone else. It means you may receive a decision before someone else has but not necessarily because you submitted yours earlier.

She said you won’t be penalized for being on the quarter system or sending your final grades late.

She said that all decisions will be mailed out by June 30.

They’ve received all my documents except my Common App (they sent a confirmation by email) but im still working on the essay and now you all are under review already :(

^Don’t sweat it. I know a few past NU transfers who submitted their application the day before the deadline and got in.

Exactly 3 weeks left to apply for transfer to NU. Anyone still working on their app?

Me!

10charr

Cool! What other schools are you applying to?

You should be able to figure it out by looking at posts by me ;)

Ha no thanks.

Thank you!

Do you think the admin board is done making acceptance/rejected decisions on some applicants?

Especially the ones who had their files complete on March 20th…

No.

What if 300 people who applied on April 29th had perfect test scores and 4.0 GPAs with stellar essays? I think they have made a “likely” or “unlikely” decision on some applicants now, but nobody is outright rejected or accepted yet.

They also require your final transcript, even though by phone they say “its recommended.” From the previous years, if you are a really bad applicant, you got your rejection decision in the first week of May. Which supports my “theory” that the extreme acceptances and rejections get their decisions first.

And for everyone else (the 90% of the 1300 applicants), its on a rolling basis somewhat based on when you submit your final transcript.

The date you submit your CommonApp has almost no effect on when you get your admissions decision.

Thanks for all your made-up information.

I really, really, really hope Northwestern is in my future. It’s all I could ever dream of. I was rejected my senior year in high school and it was the worst period of my life. Here we go, round 2. Admissions board, please give me some hope. I am convinced Northwestern is the best school in the world. It has the nicest campus and Chicago is the place to be for finance.

If it doesn’t work out this time, God must not want me in Evanston :frowning: If it somehow does work out I think I will be the happiest person ever.

I hope you find it useful.

Any link to CC, the evidence is being used as an assumption and is not 100% accurate. However, it is a good stepping stone to base patterns to occur this year since it has happened in Fall 2008, 2009, and 2010.

Cool. I still feel burned after getting rejected my senior year in high school after feeling so qualified and working so hard. USC has been nothing like my NU experience. I hope to be there one day, I’d work hard and greatly advantage from the school’s strengths. Eating at Hinman would be my #1 dream! (Typo in previous post, my SAT was a 2140 not 2180. It’s been so long I forget)

You’ve submitted your app, so you can relax now. Well, minus the waiting o.O

True. I regret applying to Medill for my first application. I think it’s a lot more competitive. It’s interesting because I applied early with a 3.53 GPA while another student from the same high school with the exact same extracurricular credentials and application got accepted to Medill with a 3.7 GPA. I was not waitlisted. Quickly Rejected. Goals Destroyed. Years Wasted. Haha. While he had the time of his life senior year & as a current undergrad at NU. The difference between a 3.5 and a 3.7 in high school is like 2 letter grades in a class or 1 extra honors class. The difference is so marginal. Also, another friend of mine got in early to Medill with the exact same extracurriculars with a 3.6 GPA with parent and sibling legacy. But now I know, and prepared x1000000 times harder my senior year and in college.

Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.

It’s in the past. If it happens, that would be a great bonus and I know NU is the right path for me and my future career. I hope I’m more competitive this time around. If not, I will make the best out of USC and things will be ok… life goes on. In LA I was able to sell 2 internet ventures & make new friends.

^Is NU the only school you applied to?

^Also the GPA isn’t the only factor they consider for admissions. “Fit” is probably the most important, and maybe he “fit” better than you.

@robert - I think you have a very good chance of being admitted. You seem to really want NU and that will show in your essays. I hope you get in!

@Robert - Ace is actually correct regarding his sentiment. NU releases acceptances/rejections early to those who are either very qualified or very under-qualified. The ‘fringe’ students do not receive decisions until mid to late June after they have submitted their final transcript.
