Northwestern Fall 2011 Transfer Thread

I try not to think about my 1st NU rejection. It’s too sad. It is my ultimate goal to work in finance. The WCAS core and Kellogg Undergraduate certificate is the perfect path for my future career. Chicago is a great place to be and finance is one of NU’s biggest strengths. It would complete my life and I’m glad there’s a chance I can be considered for Fall 2011.

I hope these decisions turn out well for you

Just submitted my app tonight. I’ve had all the LORs/Transcripts in for a while, but my perfectionism didn’t help when I tried getting the essays to a point where I felt comfortable letting them go. Now comes the really fun part: waiting nervously while attempting to finish out the semester strong.

I thought I submitted everything but I’m not getting any confirmation email whether I’m complete or not… so I checked the northwestern website to see if I had any documents missing and what is this??? :

International Supplement to the Secondary School Report (PDF) is recommended for international applicants only

it saays “recommended”? can anyone tell me what this is? I’m international… do i have to submit this?

bump!!!

Bump???

@discussion
I don’t think so. I submitted all my stuffs except the international Supplement to the Secondary School Report back in Feb and I got the email confirmation around late March. btw, I am a intl applicant

@Discussion

As the word “recommended” indicates, you do not “have to” send it. You should make it a rule of thumb to read “it gives you an advantage” instead of “recommended.” Unless of course there is something the report asks for that you do not want to transmit. I do hope you have called Northwestern about this, and if you have not done so, I do not know what you are thinking.

Why this thread is soo cold… even if it is before the deadline…

It was giving me the false hope that only a dozen people applied this year.

^
This is exactly what I wanna say… In fact according to historical data there won’t be too much applying… but compared to other threads(2000+) this is kinda weird…

NU received 1200 applications last year but I believe a majority of them come from local community colleges, which is why not very many NU applicants post on CC.

what’s the acceptance rate for transfers typically?

I didn’t read that many of the transfer applicant come from Community Colleges… but the opposite. And since NU is private, I believe there won’t be many (I doubt if there is any) guaranteed or preferred transfer contracts with community coleges. But I still don’t see the relationship between the length of a thread and the ratio of community college applicants…
Acceptance rate is less than 16% in 2009 according to USNews… I don’t have the latese data

FINALLY submitted my application. Phew.

@Kusuri - Of NU’s accepted transfers, 90% come from 4-year institutions and 10% from CCs but that doesn’t imply that they don’t receive a large amount of CC applicants.

^
You are right. Probably applicants from 4-year institutions is more favorable.

I hope you’re right about this part. I’ve been wondering lately, what constitutes an “average” applicant in terms of GPA, ECs, high school GPA, etc?

From what I’ve seen, most successful NU transfers have stellar HS records, ACT scores between 28-32 (sometimes higher, seldom is it lower), college GPAs of 3.7+. ECs don’t seem to matter as much as the aforementioned factors.

Oh and the essay is very important. If you’re a fringe applicant (which I believe is the case for me), your essay will make or break your application.

Well, Kusuri, lets get a polling sample. For all who are applying to Northwestern as transfers: Are you currently at a four-year institution or a community college?.. And of those who are at four-year colleges, how many are at top 30 colleges?

Also, how do the freshman and sophomore applicant pools compare? Is it easier to get in applying to transfer as a sophomore?
