Do all application materials need to be postmarked by May 1st or does NW have to receive them by May 1st for the app to be considered complete on time? I sent in every required document well before May 1st, but have not received a confirmation email yet. Is this cause for concern or are others in the same boat? Has anyone else NOT received a confirmation email?

Aw… this thread is so sad! No one is posting
I’m applying for the second time… I was rejected last year, which made things pretty rough. I ended up at my bottom choice safety school (Hofstra University if anyone is wondering…).

I’m pretty sure I was rejected because I leaned to heavily on the fact I took a gap year and volunteered, worked, and lived alone abroad. It was a great experience, but I used it as a crutch to make up for my not-so-great high school grades. This year, I realized that I was a bit arrogant and really made some major changes to my application. I hope it works out!

Also does anyone know what the median scores for SAT/ACT are?

I don’t think NU admits students until they receive spring grades, including those on the quarter system (like me).

mediator123, I had the same issue, but the transfer counselor told me not to worry and that as long as you have the common app and payment in by may 1st theyll allow a couple of weeks for other forms to arrive. (my high school was being ridiculous and didn’t send in my final transcript until yesterday)

What do you guys think my chances are?

2 years at UW-Madison
GPA: 3.51
SAT: 2130
HS: B+ average at a top ny prep school
pretty good essays
decent extra-curriculars

@srw4491: You seems like to be the applicant on the brink, just like me…
I would say your recommendation and major choice will really matter.

^ Why do you think major choice is important?

Major choice matters because some of the schools are much more prestigous and selective like the communications and journalism school. The comm and journalism departments are some of the best in the nation if not the best. I would assume it is more challenging to get a spot in those than another department.

Thanks for the response monacle, thats a relief.

srw, your stats appear to be borderline for NU. I think that, in your case, the adcom’s evaluation of your essays will be the deciding factor.

Does anyone know how much weight the HS transcript is given for current sophomores applicants(matriculating juniors)??

@srw: Yup I believe that in this case the essay in the supplement is going to be the deal maker or deal braker… same for me in fact… And by saying on the brink I mean for majors except Journalism, communication, drama, performing arts and even business(I am not sure cos I am no business major)…
I am not someone who would like to talk about chances, but this time our stats is really close…

@medaitor: I am also a current sophomore…

does anyone know if Nu requires of the final trancript of the spring semester? I am done with final on Friday and wonder should I have my school sent out the transcript :)

^They definitely do

What if my final scores don’t come in until 3 weeks from now…

@Robert

Assuming your decision is not yet released until you receive your final grades, you go ahead and send them to Northwestern when possible. There are cases in which the admissions committee hold the release of a decision until the final grades are received. The purpose of this of course is to determine whether the decision should be rethought (think borderline applicants). This is true for those of us applying as sophomores (hoping to enter as juniors). For those who are applying as freshmen, you are most certainly required (not a recommendation as is the case for sophomores) to send your final grades whenever you receive them as Northwestern “must” evaluate at least one full year of college performance.

^ While I hope you’re correct, I did not get that impression when I spoke to my counsellor. He said that as far as N.U.'s concerned, an application is complete when they receive a transcript. He said they will “consider” second semester grades if they receive them in time (so it sounds like they’ll still accept them for a few more weeks), but he didn’t say anything to suggest that rising sophomore transfers must submit final grades.

@anontransfer

I posted that information 5 minutes after speaking with a Northwestern transfer counsellor, so you can believe it.

“According to our records, your application is complete and ready for review. Transfer admission decisions will be released on a rolling basis between mid-May and late June. Please make arrangements to have your final transcript sent to our office as soon as it is available.”

I read in the previous year transfer thread that NU was requiring people to send in their grades. Last year, the people on C.C. were just finding out in early june to early july about decisions.

They won’t release your decision until they receive your final transcript. That’s a fact.

Thanks for the information
