Considering it. Vanderbilt freshman here, was rejected when I applied Regular Decision last year but absolutely love the school. What schools are y’all from?

Why northwestern?

  • Talked about MMSS program and the colorful rocks on campus. Trust me, it makes sense in the actual essay lol

Good luck everyone! Cyall at Northwestern hopefully

I have a question about Northwestern’s personal statement. It seems the same as the one in freshman application. The first prompt is “Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story”. Can I use this prompt to state why I want to transfer out of my current institutions like other typical transfer essay?

I’m applying, but I genuinely don’t think I’ll get in. I go to a pretty average state school (journalism program is on par with NU’s, though.) Applying as a political science major + journalism (my current major). Fantastic ECs as a first semester college freshman (won best delegation at a MUN conference with over 150 schools!)
I’m pretty proud of my Why NU essay, and I think my personal statement is, well, personal and pretty well written. I’m also fairly certain I can get a good rec letter or two from college professors (one is an NU alum, sponsor of my MUN team, and my political science professor)
I have a few good hooks (URM, income under $30K, first gen, pell Grant recipient). 30 ACT, really low. Meh college GPA, not so hot high school GPA. I think I’ll get rejected, but hey, it’s worth a shot.

Hello everyone.

Is anyone here applying to Medill?

Do you guys want to start a group chat or a discord server?

hello! i got in as a transfer last year. Let me know if you guys have any questions!

Just submitted my application to Medill!

What was the prompt of your northwestern personal statement last year? It seems this year’s is the same as the one in my previous freshman application. Can I use the prompt to state why I want to transfer out of my current institutions like other typical transfer essay?

Do they accept junior transfers?

How has your experience been as a transfer? Has it been difficult to make friends/join clubs/fraternities? How does it compare to your previous school (if you don’t mind comparing)? Thanks very much.

@AzKesh Hi I definitely have some questions

Just confirming, the personal statement should be a normal one for NW (the same kind as for seniors in high school), not a transfer essay like other schools, right?

@carsf27 Hey r u me? I’m from Vandy too! What did you do about your transcript? I requested a send thru YES and it still hasn’t been received by the schools I’m applying to :frowning:

@herewegooo I submitted my usual transfer essay, so I hope that doesn’t work against me. I thought it was pretty strong and even if I’d written another essay, it would’ve still been about an event I mentioned in my transfer one, so…eek.

Hi all, I applied as a sophomore transfer from Notre Dame for communication studies. I’m currently majoring in English/Economics at ND. And for the people above talking about the PS, I uploaded a PDF that had my normal transfer statement and also my common app essay from last year (both around 650 words).

I also applied to Columbia, NYU, and Barnard. Good luck!

@westvillagelover I applied to Barnard and plan on submitting an app for NYU too (CS major though)!! I only applied to a local public college as an incoming freshman, so I didn’t even have an old common app essay… but I did attach a gap year explanation and a random writing supplement that I thought was fun, so hopefully those showcase more of my personality.

I’m so scared to see my NU decision ahh but I read in a previous thread that they accepted more transfers than usual last year? If that’s true, hopefully the trend continues this year!!
