Northwestern Fall Transfer 2020

I’m a Weinberg (Neuroscience) applicant and I did not hear back yesterday. Congrats to everyone who was accepted, the waiting was worth it !!!

I feel like NU is accepting more students this year. Many of my friends got accepted to NU. Maybe due to COVID-19, many colleges are accepting more students in general.

My daughter submitted the Common App on 1/18 and all materials were in by 2/5 and has not received a response from Weinberg. She is a 1st year at UNC Chapel Hill. College GPA 3.5. HS GPA 4.2. ACT: 34. Lots of EC. Due to APs and dual credit, she started UNC with 30+ credit hours. NU is her #1 choice. Congrats to all that got in!

CG to everyone who got in!!! Fingers crossed for all of us who are still in desperate waiting lol

I applied to Bienen School of Music, but i haven’t heard back from them. Did you submit your portfolio?

I’m from UNC too and submitted my app early. I wonder if they’re making the decision based on your current college. I haven’t seen any of my friends at UNC got their decisions yet

I did submit my portfolio, before the March 15th deadline, but it took forever to show up on my checklist. I emailed the admissions office and they told me that they wait for Bienen to review the music app and make a decision before they get the portfolio and make their own decision.

Therefore, my assumption is that any applicants to Bienen, whether they’re just applying for the BM or they’re applying to the dual degree, might have to wait longer than other applicants to find out their results because of the process. Of course, the only Bienen applicants I know of are you and myself, so I’m not sure if there were any other Bienen transfer applicants who did get a decision yesterday. I think it looks most likely that we’ll have to wait, though… hopefully just not too much longer.

procedural question: Accepted. Am waiting on colleges who release on May 15. NU says three weeks till deposit, if I’m understanding correctly. Does submitting deposit to NU force me to attend or can I submit deposit and wait on other colleges? I’d like to be able to have at least a week after May 15 to fully evaluate and decide based on financial reasons. I’m not saying that I’d submit deposits to multiple schools. But should I submit deposit to just NU and then wait for others, potentially removing deposit if I’m accepted somewhere that fits situation better.

@yeetahh1 You can’t “remove” deposits, they’re non-refundable. There’s technically nothing binding you to your spot but you’ll lose the money.

@CHVRCHES yes, sorry, that’s what I mean. financially I can burden losing a deposit, but depending on other acceptances or rejections on May 15 I may opt somewhere that is better financially for me. just wondering if I can submit deposit and then wait past their three week deadline to actually decide where I’m headed

@lhammonx - I don’t think they will make decisions by your undergrad school. I expect they communicated to the obvious admits and rejections first. Those perhaps in the middle may need further consideration. Of course, purely speculative. My daughter is accepted at Boston U, U Illinois, and Tulane so far. Rejected by U Mich.

Did anyone hear back from Medill?

@ChicagoMom70 Yeah i’m just guessing as well. Congrats to your daughter’s acceptance!

Anyone think decisions might come out today, as well?

I didn’t hear anything. Hopefully today or this coming week!

@lhammonx i also do not believe that they are looking at where we are applying from. someone who attends my university received their decision yesterday and i still have not heard back!

is anyone also applying as an english major? if so, have you heard back yet?

I applied as an English major and haven’t heard back!

Wow! Which class (Soph, Jr., Sr.) did you apply to?

The sophomore class! @peach1234
