Northwestern Fall Transfer 2020

I got in as a sophomore transfer for political science in Weinberg arts and sciences! So excited and still doesn’t feel real! Don’t give up hope!
College GPA: 3.94 (state school)
HS GPA: 4.0 (unweighted)
ACT: 34
Essays: 9/10; feel really good about how i told my story from high rigor academics to state school life and desire for northwestern
Recommendations: 7/10; my professors seemed to really like me and be excited about the opportunity but didn’t know me that well
Hooks: waitlisted

Of the people that got accepted, are most of you accepting your offer? Basically just trying to get a sense of the yield rate.

@boomeranggecko Most likely yes! Theres only one other school I applied to that I’d consider at this point, which I’m still waiting on

for those accepted – do u think northwestern will give me transfer credit for the classes i took pass/fail this term? my school has mandatory pass fail and im worried they wont accept the credit :frowning:

@azurepurple they will. I’ve asked them abt this.

@azurepurple yeah I asked too and it’s all good! It isn’t mandatory at my school but some of classes have transitioned to online terribly, so I’m really glad I can P/F if needed

Hey I just joined CC so I’m not able to directly send a PM. I would really appreciate it if you could you mind send me the gc link.

Hey guys, I really need some advice. I applied to Northwestern fall semester of my freshman year because I was depressed that I had ended up at my state school that nearly everyone from my high school attends. However, I have started to like my university (which has a top 2 journalism program next to Northwestern). I am anticipating an acceptance from Medill because I had stellar extracurriculars this past year, a 4.0, published in my city’s notable newspaper, a memorable essay, and contacts with a former transfer (and now ambassador at Medill). Essentially I don’t know if making the switch to Northwestern will be worth it. I love the school and location, but I don’t know if the notoriety of Northwestern will justify the tuition increase from my state university when the programs are almost comparable. Also, I’d be more than willing to share my Common App. essay with anyone.

@iloveorange I think this is something to think about AFTER you get accepted. Lots of kids with great resumes do not get in

So we think the rest of the decisions are coming out wednesday or thursday, correct …? this is just based on stuff I’ve read in this thread about how NU said they’d all be out by may 15

@smlsml4444 i certainly hope so… and if we don’t hear by the 15th i think it’s reasonable to reach out to the admissions office and ask for an updated timeline

I certainly hope that they release them all this week… seems like a lot of people have not heard back yet.

has anyone noticed any trends in these past waves regarding the amounts of students being accepted/denied? I haven’t heard back yet and I’m nervous that upcoming waves will be rejection-heavy.

i have to respond to another school by the end of this week so i emailed NU to try to get a sense of when i might hear back and they said “anywhere between now and mid june.” i responded asking about the may 15th “guaranteed response” date on the website and hopefully they’ll address that in their next message… i can’t make it till mid june!!

@leafygreens I feel like it may be going by school a bit more. Most people in the transfer gc so far were accepted to Weinberg or McCormick rather than Medill, for example. Good luck! <3

Hi guys! I’ve been watching this thread for a while now. I applied last year (for sophomore admission) with a solid GPA, stats, and ECs and was rejected. I applied again this year (for junior admission) and haven’t received a decision yet, and I’ve maintained my stats and ECs (added some new ones too). Do you guys think that your major/pre-career path affects the process? I’m a bio major and premed, and I know that schools have limited availability as to how many students can be admitted to each school. This whole process has made me feel very differently about transferring and how we really don’t know what goes on when our app is under review. Good luck!!

@BL3001 thanks so much for posting about the email! Can u tell us what they respond with when they do? I hope it’s not mid June ? maybe that’s for the waitlist even though I know no one has been waitlisted yet

@CHVRCHES May I ask how many ppl are in the gc you talk about (if it’s not the fb group)? Just wanna get a sense of the number of spots left.

@djkffjjjds they responded just now saying “We are trying to get all decisions out as soon as possible. As of right now, its in the hands of the admission committee.“ not sure what to make of this other than that they may be planning on continuing with the once-every-two-weeks Thursday announcement…

@roseateflamingo There’s around 50 people, but some haven’t committed yet! I think you’ll be fine – NU usually takes around 300 transfers
