Is the $2,000 National Merit amount a one-time sum...or do you get it each school year?

D is not a NMS finalist. Have an EFC of 3586 and waiting to hear if she is in. She is 2/361 with great EC's, rec's and AP's but average SAT and ACT scores. HOping she will get in adn get aide that won't be mostly loans to pay back?

My FAFSA determined that my EFC was approximately 6,000 . . . yet NU's earlier finicial aid offer included an EFC of 36,000. Is this likely to go down once NU looks over the FAFSA?

It all depends on you and your family assets, home equity etc! Have you or did you compete the CSS profile? I would reccommend contacting them and asking them about the contrast between FAFSA EFC and what they expect(36,000).

Financial aid was not nearly as good as Wash U or Swarthmore, who basically offered half fees. Still waiting for Havey Mudd $$ info.

Hmm...I seem to be hearing a lot of complaints about this NW not giving enough money. In my opinion, I received plenty of money, and the aid that they gave actually made me pick this school over other ones.

The package I got forced me to reconsider a lot of other colleges, even though NU was my top choice. It was that bad.

Gah I'm getting more and more nervous, but I reallly can't see how it could possibly be worse than Emory.

Yeah, my friends who applied to Emory expected to get practically no aid at all...he was right for the most part in the end. But he's still going to go visit just for the heck of it, even though he'll probably end up at UT...
