Michael Mills, associate provost for university enrollment, gave the following stats concerning the students who had accepted Northwestern’s offer of admission:

2182 submitted admission deposits to Northwestern by the May 1 deadline.
Average SAT score of 1442, compared to the previous high of 1428 set last year.
A total of 91.5 percent of the students rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class, compared to 83.8 percent a year ago.

5.5 percent African-Americans, compared to 3.7 percent last year, 6.5 percent Latinos, unchanged from last year, international students increased from 5.2 percent to 6.6 percent.

9.6 percent of incoming class were admitted with Federal Pell Grants compared to 5.9 percent last year.
A total of 5.7 percent of the students were admitted with No Loan Pledge scholarships (the scholarships are awarded to undergraduates with the greatest institutional need so they have the opportunity to graduate from Northwestern without borrowing any need-based loans).

Even with a small number of students expected to withdraw their applications before the fall, the final enrollment is expected to meet the University’s target of 2,025 freshmen so fewer students are likely to be admitted from those on a waiting list.

So…does anyone know how the waitlist will work in light of the fact that enrollment sought is 2025, and 2182 actually matriculated? I have heard of some 2013 waitlisted freshmen have been taken off the waitlist and offered a spot. Any insight???

Weird that the “admitted/accepted” students SAT score would be 1473 and the “enrolled / made deposit” students would be 1442 - a 31 point drop. Still very impressive SAT scores.

Got the 1473 from an earlier post, I don’t know if the link to the article will take.

Average SATs for admitted Northwestern students rises to 1473

The average SATs for admitted students to Northwestern for the class of 2013 rose 11 points to 1473. Admitted students in the top 10% rose to 93%. The admission rate remained essentially the same at 27%.

This is the case everywhere. The best candidates are likely to be admitted to other top schools, while NW is probably the best college the lower SAT scorers got into.

^^Actually, my guess is slightly more than half score above 1442. For schools like NU, the median is typically about 10 points higher than the average.
