I'm a film major at Northwestern, and I need some advice on whether to transfer or not to NYU. I was hoping to double major in the Arts at NW (most likely photography or digital arts) but their program doesn't seem that strong. Also NYU seems like it would provide me with more opportunities connections-wise. Any thoughts? Should I wait another year to transfer?

Oh, I forgot to include why I don’t want to stay at Northwestern. It’s a nice place I guess, but I feel it’s too small and lacks diversity. (This is all just personal opinion of course.) I live really close by so I have that “too-close-to-home” feel. And I know Chicago is close by, but I feel that NYC has more of a diverse culture. And of course NYU’s film school is better known. Would it be worth it to transfer?

Hey, I’m currently a freshman film major at Tisch so here’s my 2 cents.

If you want to double major in Film & Photography at NYU, that might be possible but it’s really difficult and I haven’t heard of it. Cause if you’re in Tisch, and you chose to double major in another department at Tisch, there’s a lot of requirements that don’t cross. But it’s very easy to double major in CAS, the liberal arts college. I’m going to declare my double major in Asian/Pacific/American Studies at the end of freshman year. I’m also planning on minoring in Producing or Business of Entertainment, Media, Technology. There’s a wide variety of minors at NYU and there aren’t really any limits or obstacles in choosing one. So you have options there.

I really like the program here, so I definitely recommend it. Definitely always a lot of stuff happening. Tisch kids got a free concert and Q&A with Alicia Keys a month ago. And NW’s a solid school so you definitely have good chances of getting in.
