so for the essay, what do they mean by personal history? is it something relating to a particular experience? should you talk about your interests? I'm kind of confused about this...

and for the SATs? I took it once in MAy and then again in December but I don't know if I should send the dec. scores in- does NW combine scores?

may: 730 CR 780 M 800 W
dec: 800 CR 690 M 680 W (i really messed up M and W)

it's both. personal history means talking about your activities, experience, and interests and how they relate to becoming a good doctor. it means talking about how you became interested in medicine and why HPME is right for you. it means convincing them that you are mature enough and work hard enough to make it into HPME and become a good doctor.

and all that in 2 pages :-)

I have no idea if NU combines scores. Email them!!

I'm really really interested in the HPME, but my scores are really bad, especially after reading some stats on this website. I didn't even think I'd receive an application, so I was quite surprised I did. I was wondering if anyone could evaluate truthfully my statistics and estimate my chances?

Cumulative GPA: 3.95 (all As except AP chemistry last year)
(weighted: 4.3, ranking: 10/417)

senior yr. courses:
Physics AP
Government AP
Spanish AP
English Literature AP
European History AP
Calculus BC AP

AP tests:
US History 5
English Composition 5
Chemistry 4
Computer Science 4

IMHO, I think your stats are good enough such that the decision will come down to your ECs, essays, and interview. Yes, they are lower than the average accepted HPME student (the averages hover around 780 math and 760 verbal), but I don't think the goal of the program is to pull in the kids with the most 800s.

so for HPME, the only basis they have for judging you on are your transcript/test scores, an english recommendation, a list activites/honors, and that personal history essay. right?
This slightly alarms me, bc unlike a regular college app, it doesnt seem like enough for a wellrounded view of me O.O. I guess my essay had better be pretty damn good... shucks....

ick, since noone answered me on the regular NU thread, could someone here plz tell me if NU (not HPME) accepts supplemental materials? most schools do, but i couldnt find the answer on their site, thanks =)

um, no minimum score for SAT has been published so I wouldn't know

and yes, FordGT, you won't get an interview if your scores are too low. every part is a screening process in itself - getting the HPME application, the interview, and the final acceptance. the candidates in each pool grow progressively stronger. low SAT scores won't get you anywhere.

Don't they take either the ACT or SATI? That means they'll look at the higher score. High SATII scores won't truly MAKE UP for bad SATI scores, but they do help.

Well, I sent in my HPME last night at around 11:00PM, really crossing my fingers. On the instructions for the Guidance Counselor, they said to send in the recs they normally sent in, so my guidance counselor sent in both the recs (computer science teacher + chem teacher) that she usually sends for me as well as the English/Language Arts teacher. Is that going to be a problem? Should I try calling the office and clear that up? Thanks.
(I was going over some of last year's posts, and it was pretty exciting to watch so many people receive their acceptances and interviews, etc.)
