Why not get the answer directly from them? Send them the following card to see if you'll get the application. If they don't think you should bother applying, they won't send it.

Regarding recommendations: I think a mix of both would be good. HPME admissions wants to know if you have what it takes to become an MD so some insight into your character can't hurt.

CocaColaAddict:
Good scores but honestly not enough extracurriculars. You really have to demonstrate that you are passionate about medicine. Why don't you take an extra year in high school, have a good time and beef up your resume? Graduating early really doesn't help.
Depending on what school you are in (Arts and Sciences vs. Engineering vs. Comm), different APs are accepted. Check NU's website.
An extra subject test can't hurt

snowday29:
If you don't have a good enough chem SAT II score, you won't get the application at all. I don't know the cutoff, but try to get the score up.

insusurro:
The most important thing in applying for HPME is demonstrating a strong passion for medicine. Looking at what you posted, you haven't done any hospital volunteering or anything medically related. You might have a hard time convincing them that you are really interested in medical school.

koolkiddud:
Scores are pretty good. Make sure you focus on convincing the admit department that you are passionate about medicine. All the other stuff convinces them to hear your case

I have a 34 ACT, 1990 SAT, 800 SAT Bio M, 780 SAT chemistry, 780 Math 2 and 690 physics (took it for another school)

Recs/Essays:
My mentor professor and my AP Biology teacher will be writing them. The mentor's rec should be superb and the teacher rec should be pretty good.

I'm an above average essay writer so I guess my essays will be pretty good.

Your test scores and ECs are very good. 2500 hours volunteering at the Temple! How did you manage that with all the other stuff that you are doing. Your biggest weakness is your GPA. Most people who get into HPME have 3.9+ GPA. I know people with 4.0, ACT 35 and many ECs who did not get interviews.

except for the GPA, am i a pretty strong candidate for HPME? i think i can write really strong essays for the app and my scores are pretty strong, no?

since the beginning of freshman year actually... yes the number is correct. it's my drive and my passion and i discuss it in my commonapp essay too so that's consistent. anyways, how much of a chance do you think that i have?

Hi! I'm another HPME hopeful, among the many...

That's just the general gist; I left other less significant details out. So, what are my chances? Please give me the brutal truth...I really need it! Thanks in advance!

oh and, does HPME like students who are extremely passionate in medicine better, or students who are really passionate in medicine but also in another area? personally, i'm equally passionate about medicine and international studies -- i hope to do doctors without borders or something along those lines. will it hurt my chances of getting in if i discuss my passions for both, and not only just medicine? or should i just stick to medicine? thanks!

how long does it usually take for Northwestern to send you an application (assuming that they will)? whether i sign up for the december satII depends on this, as it is the only school I need them for.

Hi i know these stats are important but i have a quick question, I come from a small town in New Mexico and we don't really have opportunities to do research work or volunteer at a temple since the nearest one is 110miles away, or really volunteer at the hospital. Does that greatly minimize my chances or would the selection committee overlook that. BTW here are my stats hopefully they're good
