Rice and Baylor are both truly incredible and if it were not for the MCAT requirement I definitely would have enrolled. I think that the relaxed nature of the program will be changing with the implementation of the MCAT. Though Northwestern will be another $200,000, my entire family agrees that it is well worth the cost.

@Roentgen. Doubt Miami would hold anyone back. Not what I meant. But based on your screen name I would say you are a radiolgist and understand putting in a rank list. I’m just saying if Money not an issue I would rank Northwestern, BU, Miami, in that order thats all I meant. Saving money and location issues changes everything as NW, BU, Miami and Baylor are all top medical schools. If you want to be near family then can’t beat the Baylor option.

@2bdoc96- who’s paying the 200G. Plus compounded interest. If your family agrees I hope they are kicking in.

@2bdoc96, quite a shame that Rice/Baylor now requires students in the program to get a 36 on the MCAT before being allowed to enroll at Baylor. It’s no different than the University Scholars Program in Medicine at WashU which also requires a 36 on the MCAT. So silly, bc there is no real “guarantee” at all, so the stress is still there, so I agree, not taking the Rice/Baylor offer even though your parents would live close by. I would have chosen Northwestern’s HPME as well, so you made a good choice. Best of luck to you!

36 MCAT requirement: Is it only for Rice/Baylor. Or Baylor/Baylor also has this restriction? I am looking at Baylor/Baylor site http://www.baylor.edu/prehealth/index.php?id=36430 , it does not say anything about it.

“their new MCAT policy is that students must achieve an equivalent score as the incoming class for the Baylor College of Medicine. That’s like a 36 by current standards” (stated above)

Not set at 36, they just want you to be at the level of the incoming class. Nothing official but I have heard that Baylor University will have this requirement for those who apply next year (2015). In my view though, if you would like to attend Baylor College of Medicine, these programs still give you a better chance than applying on your own, especially if you are from outside Texas.

36 MCAT. Interesting, but it is very high.

So @pacnwmom, so for students entering Rice/Baylor they have to take the MCAT, but for those entering Baylor/Baylor they don’t have to take the MCAT? Interesting.
