Northwestern HPME

Ok, my stats qualified me for the application and I have downloaded it on to my computer. However, today, I got this message via email:

Dear ______,

Thank you for requesting an application to the Honors Program in Medical Education. After reviewing the information you provided, we recommend that you apply to a traditional four-year program of studies at Northwestern, rather than to the accelerated honors program.

To prepare for medical school, you may major in any course of study, in any of Northwestern's six undergraduate schools, provided you fulfill the course requirements for admission to medical school. There is a health professions advisor at the Academic Advising Center on campus to help students preparing for medical school.

Each year approximately 1500 students request an application for admission to the Honors Program in Medical Education. Because of the keen competition for only 30 available places, the requirements for receiving an application are very high. We regret that many students with solid records and test scores must be disappointed.

I hope you will understand that we do not wish to discourage your interest in Northwestern. We offer excellent premedical preparation through our traditional four-year programs at Northwestern.

Sincerely,

Dean of Admissions

***. How the hell do they judge that from the brief stats I provided them? Here are my stats:

SAT: 720 CR, 800 W, 800 M
SAT 2: Chinese 800, Biology 790, Chemistry 800, Math 2 800
AP: 12 of them (4.75 average, mostly science/math)

Schedule (math and science only):
10th grade: AP Chem, AP Bio, AP Calc BC
11th grade: AP Physics B (self studied Physics Mech C/took exam, got 5), ROP Biotech w/Internship, AP Stats
12th grade: (cuz my scheduling problems) zoo/bot, anat/phys, rop computer programming, independent science project (post ap), linear algebra, and multivariable calculus.

all As. 4.0 UW, 4.79 W, while school does not rank, i have highest gpa.

*? I honestly don't see how they can recommend me not to even apply for the program. hell if i don't get in, im not going to be bummed. but *, recommend me not to apply?

I obviously want to at least apply to this program. How the hell do I go about telling them I am eligible?

k, i = major n00b. i just saw this:
If you recently received an e-mail regarding HPME saying we suggest you just apply to undergraduate admission, please disregard it. It was sent in error. You should have already received the link for the HPME application in your previous e-mail. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this second e-mail may have caused.

lol sorry

I just got that email. When did they email you back saying it was a false email?

Sent from my GT-I9100 using CC App

2 hours afterwards.

That happened to me too! Although I probably won’t apply. My scores are all on par (34 ACT, 10W, 800 SAT Math II), but my SAT Chem (690) is horrible. She said that some people have gotten in w/it before, but she recommends I re-take it. And I’d get rocked if I retook it. Whatever. Good luck!

Hi,
On the hpme request form, did you fill out the additional comments box? or is this box only for explaining test scores or something? Because i didnt fill it out and now im regretting it. was i supposed to mention my research experience and other extracurriculars?
