Northwestern Medill chances

Hi, I just received my grades for first semester yesterday, and here is how they look

Government--A
AP Lit--A
AP Calc BC--B
AP Physics B--C
AP Spanish Language--B
Journalism--A
Photography--A

I had an A in calculus until the final exam dropped me to a 89, and my teacher does not round up. Spanish was the same situation. Prior to this, my stats were as follows:

Class ranking: 30/789
GPA: 4.333 weighted, 3.98 unweighted

Other stats include

SAT: 2250
CR: 680
W: 770
M: 800

SAT 2's
US history: 770
LIT: 720

AP Language, US History, European History--5
AP Calc AB, Bio--4

My course load for second semester of senior year be the same except AP Macroeconomics will replace Government.

Northwestern Medill is my first choice. I'm hoping that my participation in Cherubs and my editor-in-chief position on my school's newspaper staff will help balance my poor mid-year report.

If it helps I can post my extracurricular statistics.
How much will my poor mid-year report affect my chances to a top college?

NWU Medill: Reach

I can answer other questions.

At least you have a shot at Medill…

You can’t take advice from anyone who abbreviates it as NWU! That’s a mark of being unfamiliar with the school.

Northwestern loves its Cherubs. That’s a piece of info that only someone familiar with the school can give perspective on. Your Cherub participation is something to leverage, esp in the WHY NU essay. Best of luck!

Pizzagirl, trust me Catria knows her/his stuff. It must have been slip of something. I agree wth Pizzagirl, you have a good chance. Your CR may hurt you though.

Don’t let this freak you out, because he didnt apply to Medill, but my brother got rejected from Northwestern and he had a 2350 SAT and 4.5 GPA. Now, the main point of this is to show that in no way should you think of this as a goal or safety school. It’s a reach for anyone, but you have strong credentials. Best of luck to you!

Hey r250318, we’re glad to hear of your interest in Medill and Northwestern (NU!). We can’t answer any admissions questions, but if you have any other specific questions about the school or if you want to try and get in touch with someone here, let us know and we’ll do what we can to help out. Have a great day!

I settled on NWU to abbreviate Northwestern since the day I had a “Chance Me” PM asking for both Northwestern and Northeastern (NEU), when normally, very few people apply at both NEU and NWU. But the first person considered NEU as a safety, while NWU was its reach, and the other one who mentioned both schools in a Chance Me thread said that applying at Northwestern was unthinkable (and Northeastern was already a reach).

CATRIA, congratulations on your 3000 post. I have seen you give fantastic advice and your NWU is no big deal. Thanks for all the help!
