I am a high school senior hoping to earn a degree in theatre. I did the whole college audition thing this year and, long story short, it didnt work out too well. I am a little underwhelmed with my current options, and I will almost certainly be auditioning for programs again next year. Im kind of annoyed because I was considering Northwesterns BA program, and at the last minute I decided not to apply because I thought I wouldnt get into the school. I was extremely naïve, regarding both my supposedly nonexistent chances of getting into an academic school and my supposedly absolute chances of getting into top conservatories based on talent alone. Basically, I screwed myself over and the more I read about the theatre program at Northwestern, the more I think it would be a fantastic place for me.

So, I have two questions.

1) How difficult is it to transfer into Northwestern as a sophomore? I mean, just generally. Im going to a fairly decent state school, but its nothing special, and I wont be in the honors program. But I plan to work hard, get good grades, etc, and I have a pretty solid high school record (mediocre SATs though: 1900/2400, 1230/1600. But is any of that high school stuff even taken into consideration for transfers?) Anyways, can it be done, even if Im not coming from an ivy league?

2) If I DO get into Northwestern as a theatre major (as a sophomore for the 2011-2012 year), do I still have to spend a year in the program before I can audition for the MT certificate? Or can I do that after getting accepted but before attending, since most people audition before their sophomore year? Does it only pay to be in the certificate program for three years? Does being in the MT program for only junior and senior year take away from the experience?

Haha, I guess that was more than two questions. Please help if you can!

Thanks!
