^delete this post...so much bias. only ur 2nd post and uve already fallen into CC hysteria

Well, it depends on fit, but personally I would attend the UChicago. It's more prestigious, more intellectual, and more challenging(which isn't to say that NU is easy).

^^ more prestigious among who? not prospective students (uchicago has a MUCH lower revealed preference ranking than northwestern, not consulting firms (uchicago is recruited by 1 out of the top 5 while northwestern is recruited by 4)

on the contrary it has a higher PA score and higher WSJ feeder ranking (although northwestern is very close in the feeder ranking and its own graduate schools weren't used in calculating the statistics)

so i guess we could say chicago is more prestigious among academic institutions, while northwestern is more prestigious in the real world (that is, the world outside of academics)

I wonder how many kids choose Chicago with the dream that they'll join Arthur Anderson someday?

Note to Elsijfdl, the real world can be a lot bigger than you think.

I think instead of comparing Northwestern and Chicago we should just have a competition to make the longest and most popular thread.

Summary:

The schools are different. They attract different people looking for different things. Some students find what they're looking for at both, some only at one of the two. Both schools are very good at giving you what you want, provided that you want what they're offering you. Neither is objectively "better," but rather better for an individual person.

If students are between the two, I would suggest explaining what you're looking for in a college.... then we might be able to get a real conversation going.

more like, if you don't know what you want, northwestern is probably the right choice... you don't want uchicago unless you know you want uchicago

For those UChicago people who claim the difference in WSJ ranking is significant, please be aware that NU has large population of students that study performing arts, communications, journalism, and music (performance)...and are less inclined to go to prof schools. So if you take that into the account, the difference in prof school placement is really insignificant. I bet the placement number for NU's college of arts and sciences is pretty comparable to UChicago's. According to the website of NU's college of arts and sciences, out of those planning for further study, 90% were admitted to one or more schools and 63% were admitted to their first choice; 41% sought a medical degree and 22% a law degree. So let's not try to make it look like a big difference.
