I have to decide between these colleges and I really don't know what to do. People tell me that Berkeley, while it has a good bio program, is too cutthroat and that the academic environment is unhealthy. On the other hand, I heard that Northwestern's biology program 1) isn't as good, 2) that the tuition is too expensive and 3) "it's not worth it."
My other acceptances are UCLA, U of I Urbana-Champaign, and UC Wisconsin-Madison.
Any advice would be much appreciated and thank you in advance!

Any school with a lot of pre-meds (which probably describes all of the schools you list) will have a significant amount of competitiveness from all of the pre-meds trying to get a 3.5+ GPA in their science courses and overall. Because (at selective schools) doing pre-med is popular and majoring in biology is popular, you may find the intro biology and chemistry courses to be among the larger ones on campus – check the on-line schedules.

What are the cost differences?
Med school is very expensive.
