Northwestern or Chicago?

"Northwestern isn't actually in Chicago"

Northwestern 'University' is in both Evanston and Chicago.... Most (but not all) of the undergrad classes are taught on the Evanston Campus.

The Chicago campus is in the ritziest part of Chicago (the Magnificient Mile neighborhood) and also borders Lake Michigan (well, technically, LSD).

I think Northwestern sounds like a better choice for you.

I grew up not far from Chicago. While Evanston may seem large and urban to someone who isn't from the area, to the locals, it's just another one of the larger suburbs (a number of the Chicago suburbs do have urban business districts, ritzy restaurants, etc.). The thing that makes it stand out is that it's sort of like an extension onto Chicago.

I'm quite familiar with the Northern burbs as well - and while burbs such a Buffalo Grove, Wilmette, etc. have business districts - they aren't quite like that of Evanston (or other larger "burbs" such as Schaumburg) which have high-rises and where one can live as a "city person" (no need for a car).

There are other funny/off-color t-shirts wandering around.

One I've seen is "Sure that works great in practice, but how does it work in theory?"

Another University of Chicago shirt- "Where the only thing that goes down on you is your GPA".

NU is awesome, the students there I personally think are more rounded and cooler than the UChicago students. I think some of the Uchicago students take their academics into account way too much.

so how is the premed at NU

They have HPME, which kids turn down Harvard for.

kids turn down Harvard for a regular Northwestern admission :p a girl in my dorm was accepted to Harvard.

well, besides the hpme thing

acceptance rate of northwestern undergrads to med school is over 80%

i'll look for the data, i'll post it if i can find it

i can't find the data, sorry, i read once that it was something like 82% which is typical of any top school

more important is where you're going to enjoy going to school more/get better grades/have more research opporunities/better professor interaction, AKA school fit should be much more of a concern than "quality of premed' program, since any top school is going to have an outstanding premed program, all of which will have acceptance rates around 80%

Here's a link to an article about violence between 2 groups in Hyde Park. Because Hyde Park is such a safe and intellectual neighborhood, one must assume that this was isolated and uncharacteristic mild disagreement between one group that thought Schopenhauer was sorta right, and another group that thought he was sorta wrong.

Hahahahahaha.

For me, University of Chicago rocks.

Choosing a school is a process between the admissions department and the prospective applicant. You do not choose schools like picking apples. You need to assess yourself first. Be honest and straightforward. Each school has a fit for someone. Understand what your needs are. You may think a school is great, but it may be the worst decision you ever made. Understand perspective.

Perhaps the school will not think you are a good fit?

Talking about school features is like talking about buying electronics. Perhaps you do not need all those features. Perhaps the student body will repel you. Perhaps another school will bring the best out of you.

Maybe you are unrealistic about who you are? Have you been to the campus. Have you sat in on their classes? What are the most important features for you? What can you live with and what can you not live without?

Be a smart shopper.
