Northwestern or Duke?? Please help!!

@arbiter213

Duke is in NC, not NJ :-)

Couldā€™ve fooled me. ;)

^Was that supposed to be a distasteful reference to Dukeā€™s over-representation of Northeasterns?

I donā€™t think distasteful means what you think it means.

Duke would be my choice

@classclown - why are you posting on every NU thread when you have never attended NU? Perhaps you should stick to Tufts threads?

I have friends who work and teach at NU.

Same dilemna (for just 2 secs) as the op but Duke wins. Duke is the Harvard of the South. The Research Triangle for our internships! A regular semester life (as opposed to quarters) Read this from Daily Northwestern

[Gutelle: Cramming is the quarter systemā€™s biggest flaw - Forum - The Daily Northwestern - Northwestern University](http://www.dailynorthwestern.com/forum/gutelle-cramming-is-the-quarter-system-s-biggest-flaw-1.2662175)

And did I say better weather for your quality of life.

LOLā€¦I love that itā€™s the ā€œHarvard ofā€¦ā€ Iā€™m sure it is, but Iā€™ve seen a zillion t-shirts since I went to college (including mine)ā€¦that said the school was the ā€œHarvard of theā€¦ā€ why donā€™t we just let Duke be Duke and Northwestern be Northwesternā€¦as for the quarter system, yes, the vast majority of schools use the semester systemā€¦but, some of the most elite schools in the country use the quarter system (I donā€™t think anyone would turn down Stanford because of the quarter system, do you?)ā€¦Both great schoolsā€¦and if you do well coming out of either place, I promise you that youā€™ll have great prospects for your first job or for grad schoolā€¦after that, no one will really care where you went to collegeā€¦

^^The list of Dukies that seem so interested in Northwestern is growing. Is Durham really that boring? Or should we be flattered that they see us as a major rival despite the distance?

^Why do you and others keep making this pointless argument? Are you 10 years old? We have just as much of a right to chime in on someone trying to choose between our school and another University (no matter which board on CC it is).

I think Duke is a better school overall, but who knows for sure.

Itā€™s fine for anyone to have an opinion, but unless you include some data or firsthand information to support that opinion, plus some background that might frame a bias (for example ā€œmy D is a freshman at NUā€ or ā€œI currently attend Cornell and was waitlisted at NUā€ or whatever), Iā€™d guess that your opinion is not of much value (and shouldnā€™t be of much value) to those who were actually trying to make decisions.

Honestly, prior to this thread I had no opinion of Duke (it was not on the list of schools D researched or applied to since in her field it is not a strong school), but seeing the number of Duke trolls who arrived on this thread does not make me want our S to apply there.

Thats ironic, if anything seeing the fervent passion that Duke students exhibit should prompt your son to apply. Perhaps he is not fond of displaying some good old fashion school spirit. Well, different strokes for different folks eh?

CuseAmbassador,

Have some sense of humor and lighten up. We were focusing on helping the OP until Duke trolls like you came in. I apologize for getting you so worked up.
