Hi all, my three main choices right now are Northwestern, U of I (James Scholar), and Wash U. I don't think I'll be going to U of I so that leaves NU and Wash U. I'm trying to choose between Biomedical Engineering and Electrical Engineering/Computer Science. If I went the EECS route, I think Northwestern would make the most sense, but for the BME route I'm not sure which one would be better. Factors I'm interested in are quality of the degree as well as overall satisfaction with college experience. Also, I'm from a suburb very close to NU so ideally I'd like to go somewhere further away for college but if NU is the better choice I would be ok with attending. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

UIUC is a top 5 EE/CS school. So if you choose to go to Northwestern or Wash U, it isn’t for academic reasons.

Not sure h ow to answer your question.

NU is the higher ranked engineering school – though you probably knew that. Overall, as a university, Wash U is obviously very highly ranked, and they seem to be investing a lot of money in upgrading the physical plant – though who knows how long this will take till an impact if felt.

Intangibles – going ‘away’ for school is understandable, other intangibles are very much a matter of personal choice.

I agree that it’s tough to find an EE/CS degree more valuable than U of I’s. It isn’t the social/campus experience everyone is looking for, so it’s fine to choose a private school instead. In that case, it sounds like Wash U is your best option if you want to get away from the North Shore.
