Gosh, I'm up to the wire - I have to send in an acceptance card, tomorrow. And I still don't know where it's going to!

I want to double major in theatre and English, and I love Northwestern's theatre department! But English? I know it's good. My question is, do people have random discussions about Plato and Shakespeare at 3 AM?
How accessible are professors? Basically, I know the academics at Northwestern are GREAT. But are they at the same sort of level as Yale or Princeton?

I'm sorry to be so desperate and so rushed about all this. I've been researching for seven years, but I certainly wasn't expecting these acceptance letters, and now I'm not sure what to do!

Thanks, in advance, for your help!

Perhaps I'm biased about Northwestern because I'm going there, but I still think NU's a great choice for you.

I believe Northwestern is very strong in both areas you want to pursue. If you want those random discussions about Plato and Shakespeare at 3AM at Northwestern, you have to bring it up! Don't be lulled into a sense of security and complacency by the hardcore sports fans, the energy and spirit of the students, and party-hard atmosphere - when it comes to academics, NU students are seriously and really bright, and some of them have passed over Ivy League opportunities to go to NU so they're still Ivy-league caliber. At an Ivy League school, you might not stand out as much, but we need people like you at Northwestern to stand out, to make a difference, to do something significant. I strongly believe that to succeed at any school, you have to use your resources to the best of your ability. For example, I come from a very diverse public school with fairly weak academics, but I've taken advantage of my environment to achieve academic success. At Northwestern, if you take advantage of all the opportunities that it has to offer, you will have a GREAT time and an incredible academic career. The professors are definitely very accessible and wholeheartedly support your ideas and research, as I've observed from academic sessions and talking with students. As with any school, you yourself have to take initiative and approach the professors, and Northwestern has some very excellent profs in all different areas. The campus is serene and beautiful, right by the lakefront, and the university really attracts the type of students that really WANT to be there, which makes the atmosphere exciting and dynamic. I also have a friend who was accepted to NU and Yale, and he chose Northwestern, so I guarantee that you too won't be disappointed with NU! Come join the Wilcat Class of 2009 with me!

Good luck with your choice.

You want to major in Theatre.

NU has a better theatre program than Yale or Harvard.

I personally would go with Yale.

yea man, this shouldn't even be a question. northwestern is pretty famous for NOT being the place where people talk about plato at 3 am. i would go to yale for sure

I can recall a perspective who chose Northwestern over Princeton precisely because his NU hosts discussed philosophy and religion until 4am in the morning. The perspective thought Princeton students were too interested in partying. If you think this was an anomaly, it wasn't. In this particular group, all members of a suite at 1835 Hinman (for you Northwesternites), one member became a philosphy prof at Columbia, one a physician at NIH,one an engineer with Thiokol, one a model, one a mathematician and the other a jock.

Sure...perhaps over Princeton, but not Yale. Its more intellectual, as good theater, amazing overall intellectual atmosphere.

I love Princeton but...It does not offer film-making at all. In terms of staying up until 3am talking about philosophy...you will make friends no matter where you choose. Yale has wonderful english and film-making departments. Personnally, for film-making, I would go there. You can not go wrong with either Yale or NU but Yale just seams to be the place for you. Their English department truly is wonderful.
