70-62 in a home basketball win today to go 9-1 on the season.

With Kevin Coble lost early in the season to injury, I didn't see this coming. In fact, with a new university president at the helm, I might have predicted this to be Carmody's last season coaching, not a season to possibly coach the team into a top 25 national ranking.

Wow, things are very different now from when I went to NU. Although I did get to see Bobby Knight throw chairs when we were beating IU in Evanston.

Anyway, here’s a blog that you die-hard Cats fans might like:

Don’'t forget also losing Ryan, a senior and an impt. role player off the bench, for the rest of the season (and probably career - likely won’t be asked back for a 5th year) as well.

The 'Cats definitely have a good shot at making the Tourney this year thus far, which is remarkable considering they lost their best player and one of the best in the conf.

The 2 freshman, Crawford and Marcotulio, while a bit erratic at times, are contributing significantly and Shurna has taken over the role of Coble.

Next year, w/ Coble back and w/ the relatively young team w/ another year of experience - a preseason ranking is not out of the question.

Also, let’s not forget about the women’s BB team which is 9-2 and well on its way back to prominence.

Another win by the men (by 20 tonight over CCSU) to go 10-1 on the season. We face Illinois one week from now for a tough away game in Champaign. No easier will be #9 Michigan State, to follow, in Evanston.

And k & s - make that 11-2 for women’s basketball after their win over Loyola today.
