I know this has been posted before, but it seems that all of the information is outdated. My main question is how inclusive are the parties for guys? I know at some schools like Brown the parties are really inclusive. Is it easy to have a good social life without being in a fraternity?
Bump
Anyone?
There’s a pretty big party scene here and you don’t have to be in greek life to participate.
Even for guys? @WondrousWildcat
Yeah, I know plenty of guys who party and aren’t in greek life. Most of those guys are freshmen so they haven’t had the opportunity to join a frat yet, but yeah you can definitely find parties even if you’re not in greek life.
@WondrousWildcat that so relieving to hear!! Another question, what are the most social dorms closest to the science buildings? I want a sense of community and be really close with the people on my floor.
Bobb is known as the party dorm, but it’s a pretty shitty building AFAIK. Bobb/McCoulloch is definitely know as the most social dorm though. I’m on south campus so I don’t really know a ton about north.
@WondrousWildcat If you get in Early Decision, do you have higher housing priority?
Bobb is a shithole; if you want to live in a social dorm up north aim for Elder.
In regards to the party scene/social scene in general, I would not recommend NU for a kid that doesn’t want to get involved with Greek life.
No, housing works the same way regardless of RD or ED. Around the summer (next year after you get in) you’ll rank your top 5 and then find out a couple weeks after. Also, party life is great
@1d51jklad1 why is that?
@Metaphorical even for guys not in Greek life?
buummpp!
Idk if this post has already lost its relevance, but I have some other opinions on this post. Tbh, to get into parties easily, specifically frat parties, you are going to need to 1. Be a hot girl, 2. Be in a group with hot girls, or 3. Know a brother from the fraternity and have a text to get in. Otherwise, it’s highly likely that you will straight up be turned away. There is definitely truth to what the other posters have mentioned; Northwestern parties are not very exclusive, especially in the first few weeks of school where people on North Campus are always walking to parties on weekends and you can basically join the crowd. Seems like you’re targeting North Campus housing, definitely a good play if you want to be closer to parties and the social scene. South Campus has some good dorms but can also be socially dead. Basically, I just want to make sure that you’re hearing both sides of the story, bc other posters here have a very high opinion of NU’s inclusiveness in parties and imo that’s not entirely true. Also, idk if I’d describe the party scene here as ‘big’ hahaha. NU definitely has the best parties for the area (> Loyola, > DePaul, probs >UChicago), but that doesn’t mean this school has totally bomb ragers (go to a state school for that lol). Overall, NU isn’t exclusive for parties but any rando off the street is probably not getting in. It’s to your advantage to be in a fraternity for parties but certainly not necessary if you have buddies in frats or other friends who throw parties off campus.
