really good EC’s
really good essays (except why NU…)

why rejected? My why NU sucked monkey nuts. There was nothing about the school itself at all in there, so it’s no surprise at all that I got rejected. Not really a heartbreaker though, I got my likely letter to my top choice school, so I more than likely wouldn’t be going to NU anyway. Glad someone who wanted it was able to have my spot.

You are in possibly the worst demographic for acceptances to highly selective colleges. Neither Asians nor international applicants have it easy; an Asian girl at my school last year with fairly generic (although involved) ECs got rejected with a 2230. It might help if you told us which undergraduate school you applied to, since we can diagnose slightly more easily.

Decision: Accepted! (Weinberg CAS)

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 710M/710CR/730W
[] SAT IIs: 710 Chemistry, 690 Math Level 1 (Haha, I suck)
[] ACT: n/a
[] GPA: we don’t calculate GPA but I’ve consistently gotten JUST ONE B each year - gutting.
[] Rank: we don’t rank
[] Other stats: I’m really proud of my GCSE grades (7A, 3A, 1B) My AS grades were much the same.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I spent a long time on my common app one and I think it’s excellent! Better than any other personal essay I’ve ever written anyway. My “why Northwestern” essay was somewhat generic, but I made everything personal. For example, I am obsessively involved in MUN, I’ve been to a total of 15 conferences and through my involvement, I found that I love issues relating to disarmament and international security. So, I chose Weinberg for my major (International Studies) because of its thematic cluster titled “Issues in International Security”.
[] Teacher Recs: I think they were as good as they could be. I go to a British school so my teachers were unfamiliar with how, exactly, to write an American style recommendation! My MUN director wrote one too and gave it to my counselor, who told me about it. Reading it made me cry
[] Counselor Rec: Good, I guess.
[] Hook (if any): My insane involvement in MUN? Artistic talent? Brown belt in taekwondo? I have no idea.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Malaysia
[] School Type: International (independent)
[] Ethnicity: Malay
[] Gender: Female
[] major strength/weakness: Strengths: I think my crazy (I’m running out of synonyms) and extremely geeky pursuit of MUN. And my art portfolio. Weaknesses: SAT IIs and ECs outside of MUN and taekwondo.
[] why you think you were accepted/: see above
[] going to attend? Yeah, probably. Just waiting for decisions from a couple more universities.
[/ul]Other Factors: Um, nothing really.

Decision: ACCEPTED! School of Communication

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2120
[] SAT IIs: 740 ML1, 720 LIT
[] ACT: 34 (E: 36, R: 34, S: 34, M: 33)
[] GPA: 4.00UW, 4.10W (My school’s weighting is ever so slight) / 99.77 Weighted Numerical
[] Rank: 3/50
[] Other stats: Really extensive resume!
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Used my number one activity (mock trial) to set up my “Why NU?” essay. I went about deciding if Northwestern fit me through use of the justice scale, or in my case, the college scale. The concept wasn’t too original, but I believe the approach and use of phrasing was.
[] Teacher Recs: Both very good.
[] Counselor Rec: Very good, and extensive information about the situation of my school.
[] Hook (if any): No hook. Just a white male from Texas.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Texas
[] School Type: Small Private Christian
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[] major strength/weakness: Very well-rounded, but not yet completely focused in on a certain passion yet.
[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: I think my resume showed the admissions committee how determined I am. I do way too many activities for my own good, but I love them.
[li] going to attend? Quite possibly. Right now, it is between Cornell and Northwestern. However, I find out from Columbia soon and that would trump both.[/li][/ul]

Shoot me a message if you’re going to the School of Communication. I’d be studying Communication Studies with an emphasis on Argument & Advocacy.

ACCEPTED!!! OMG was NOT expecting that. My face must have been like :O
