Lawl, if you looked only at CC admission rates you would think Northwestern accepted like 90%.

Did ANYBODY else get into the College of Arts and Sciences???

H20poloboy, I had stats very similar to yours and was rejected as well. I know it’s hard not to wonder how your other decisions will be, but remember that this one has NO bearing on it. These college admissions truly are a crap shoot, to be quite blundt.

Decision: ACCEPTED!!!

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 2110

[] Other stats: so much music!

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: common app essay was about being myself… i know… sounds generic… but it was good… well… i think… and the NU essay was about what at NU would help me become a businessman in the entertainment industry. YEAAHH!

[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: i really dunno…

[/ul]Other Factors:

waitlisted… how does this work now if their waitlist is unranked? do they evaluate all the applicants again, every time a spot opens up???

Decision: ACCEPTED WCAS

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: Nope.
[] SAT IIs: 730 - Literature, 780 - Math II
[] ACT: 33 / 11 Writing
[] GPA: It’s about 3.8 UW / 5.0 W
[] Rank: Top 10%
[] Other stats: 5 APs this year / taking 6 AP tests (Econ is two)
APs taken already: USH, Language, Geography (4,5,4)
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I liked my common app one (it was about a hiking/leadership trip I did in Alaska) and my why NU one was somewhat generic, but I pulled a lot of specific examples. I want to major in English, so I talked about a lot of classes that NU offers that I’d like to take.
[] Teacher Recs: One from Physics, one from AP English. I waived my rights, but I believe they were good.
[] Counselor Rec: I can’t say she knows me that well, but I think she likes me.
[] Hook (if any): I also got a recommendation from an alumni (family friend) - not sure if it helped.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Illinois
[] School Type: Large competitive public, ranked 1 or 2 in Illinois.
[] Ethnicity: Chinese
[] Gender: F
[] major strength/weakness: Weaknesses - Generic ECs, Strengths - Good recs/essays, rigorous course load, interview
[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/deferred: I honestly don’t know, but I’m really excited and happy.
[li] going to attend?: Depends. I’m waiting on Cornell. [/li][/ul]Other Factors: When NU sent the decision email out, I freaked out. I was hanging out with my family and when I saw the word “Congratulations”, I literally jumped up from the table and ran around the pool screaming.
My family probably thinks I’m crazy now.

Anyway, Congrats to all of the admits! And for everyone else - keep hope alive, you are amazing :)

Geez, that 790 in one of your SAT’s really cost you.

2-iron, that really sucks. Waitlisted with a 2390, did you write your essay about strangling puppies?

[] Essays: My common app essay was excellent, if a little long. I believe the supplement was a “why NWU?” and I thought it was decent. (But obviously it must have been great…
[ *] Teacher Recs: again, I guess they must have been great
[] Counselor Rec: she has to write them for ~500 students so it couldn’t have been personal at all

Decision: ACCEPTED WCAS

Stats:
SAT: 2070 (Oct 2007)

APs taken already: Physics B, Calc AB, Calc BC, Chem, Bio, US Gov’t (All 5’s)
Subjective:
Essays: I thought my essays were good, but now that I think about it more, I’m not so sure if they were that good.
Teacher Recs: One from Chem teacher (I’m a Chem major), and one from my math/physics teacher. I wish I got one from an English teacher instead of two science teachers…
Counselor Rec: I seriously don’t know why but somehow he thinks I’m amazing
Hook (if any): it’s not a hook, but I went to Northwestern last summer and took Organic Chem and got an A
Location/Person:
State or Country: International student, Currently in Kansas
School Type: Small private
Ethnicity: Korean
Gender: F
major strength/weakness: Weaknesses - really weak ECs, and I think I totally screwed up the interview
Strengths - I have good scores (except for my SATI)
why you think you were accepted/rejected/deferred: Don’t know. I thought that optional alumni interview could get me flat out rejected.
going to attend?: No. Not so likely. I applied to HPME (which I didn’t get in) so my chances of going to NU is extremely low right now.

Decision: REJECTED - McCormick (Electrical Engineering)

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 740CR, 700M, 620W
[] SAT IIs: 710CH, 710PH, 680M2, 640MBio

[] Teacher Recs: Four great recs from different teachers.
[] Counselor Rec: Just mom, but it was good.
[] Anti-hook: White male in engineering, 3rd gen in college.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Maryland
[] School Type: Homeschool
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[] major strength/weakness: Strengths: GPA, courseload, verbal scores. Weaknesses: Math scores… math scores… FREAKIN
** MATH SCORES!!!ONEONEONE
[] why you think you were rejected: Math scores, prejudice against homeschoolers, just another white male.
[] going to attend? I was, but thanks to their cold hearted rejection of my application, I’ll be forced to look elsewhere. (Like maybe U of Illinois, their EE department is ranked far higher than NU after all…)
[/ul]Other Factors: I’m totally distraught. NU was my dream school and I was quite sure I would be admitted and attend. I visited, I met with an EE prof, I got to know people in admissions. Aside from my somewhat sub-par math scores… WHERE DID I GO WRONG!? :(

@koreangurl1342 "Dude, what the f#$%?

Was your main EC like raping pilgrims? "

Dude, u really need to change your moniker. i do not think your a girl nor a korean. are u trying to shame ur ex with this moniker and with this kind of post? stop.

[] Gender: female
[] major strength/weakness: class schedule/GPA/rank and one of my activities outside of school which helped me stand out. weaknesses…probably my SAT scores.
[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/deferred: being a female in engineering can’t hurt but I’d like to think I still had the stats to get in. I also had a good alumni interview, but I’m not sure how much that counts.
[li] going to attend? it’s in my top 3…we’ll see[/li][/ul]
