GPA: 3.7 I think? I have a 92 so whatever that is.
Rank: No rank, and I have no idea where I would be because my school is SO competitive.

Subjective:

* Essays: My why NU one was really stupid in my opinion. Cliche, Chicago is awesome, Evanston is pretty, the academics are superb, blah blah blah.
Teacher Recs: I have NO idea honestly but they were probably pretty good.
Counselor Rec: Decent at least, again I have no idea but I go to my guidance counselor a lot so she knows me pretty well.
Hook (if any): Well, I do art? I sent them a portfolio of drawings and paintings, so maybe that helped me? Honestly I am white and a pretty lazy person so I dunno haha.

Location/Person:

* State or Country: USA
School Type: Large public school

major strength/weakness:

Strength: art, essay writing, passion that really shows in all my writing and probably in my recs, I’m in a fair amount of honors/AP classes, I skipped Spanish 5 and took AP Spanish as a junior
Weakness: I guess my GPA? but I switched schools junior year so it vastly improved since fresh/soph year I went to a REALLY hard private school.
* why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: hahaha I have NO idea!
* going to attend? I still have 4 more schools to hear from, but as of right now hell yes!

Other Factors: I have been a Girl Scout since kindergarten, and I have worked towards my Gold Award. I’ve done Model UN and Congress, and I’m a member of the National Art Honors Society. I have a part-time job at an ice cream store. Ummm other than that… I play lacrosse? I’m not a superstar or anything though.

[ *] ACT: 29
[ *] GPA: 4.0

[ *] Essays: Common App one was really personal and powerful, Northwestern one on why Medill was really good – wrote about working on the city paper and internship at Barron’s
[ *] Teacher Recs: Didn’t read but they love me
[ *] Counselor Rec: Didn’t read but she respects me a lot
[ *] Hook (if any): Journalism experience definitley
Location/Person
[ *] State or Country: New Hampshire
[ *] School Type: Large City Public all the way
[ *] Ethnicity: White
[ *] Gender: Female
[ *] major strength/weakness: strength was essays and journalism experience, weakness SAT scores
[ *] going to attend? Waiting to hear back from my top LACs then have to decide

I really liked NU but am scared about going specifically to Medill b/c journalism is a dying field even though I love it dearly. We’ll have to see where else I get in. It’s an honor in itself to be accepted to Medill. I am jumping up and down : )

No, sadly. I’m petitioning to get it changed, and I’ll keep the site updated if that gets done. It’s unlikely, though, due to the large number of requirements in both majors. I’m currently a journalism major, film minor, but the latter’s primarily a wash, as you can’t take production or screenwriting under the RTVF minor.

wow thats unfortunate, but i guess it makes sense. I applied to Medill basically because i figured if it was NU for me i should go for Medill but i am also really interested in film and stuff, i figure though that medill is pretty good about teaching people the tools to write and produce ill just have to do the creative parts myself.

Do you want majors medill students can double major in?

[] School Type: public
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: f
[] major strength/weakness:
[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: scores not up to par, not rly
[] going to attend? i wish
[/ul]Other Factors:

Medill students can double major in any major within Weinberg (the College of Arts and Sciences), as well as within McCormick (Engineering), Bienen School of Music and the School of Education and Social Policy (I believe). Basically, as a major in Medill, you can double major in basically anything except the School of Communication.

Medill is amazing in terms of preparation, but there are numerous opportunities to get involved in the film community on campus. I’ve worked on film sets, gaining direct experience, and I’ve taken three film classes (1/quarter) since I arrived in the fall. It’s incredibly easy to get involved in film if you’re enrolled in Medill.
