Northwestern SCS vs State School

What would be better…

A BPhil from NW SCS? Even though it is from Weinberg Art and doesn’t say SCS on degree (or does it)… or a trad BA from a lower ranked state school such as a Cal State.

I am at NW SCS now, but having trouble getting classes I want.

is NW SCS that worth it in terms of career?
Will employers view it differently?

also I do not plan on staying in Chicago after this… so not sure how much it would help.

I’ll be in CA, so just considering going ahead and transferring to a CA state school or maybe a similar program at USF…

thoughts?

Bumping this once again. I am currently enrolled at Northwestern SCS … the degree would be a Bachelors of Philosophy … certified by Weinberg Arts and Sciences.

Would this be viewed the same, better, or less than say …

A traditional BA from Loyola, Depaul or University Illinois at Chicago.

Will employers or potential grad schools know the difference?

I could either transfer and go full time or stay as it is at Northwestern SCS…

Note the degree from there does NOT say Northwestern SCS…

it is Northwestern University Bachelors of Philosophy.

Is cost a factor? Isn’t SCS pretty expensive?

It is pretty expensive but I have Grant/Scholarships/Loans… would run about 25K for me. I maxed out the “2 year” credits upon coming in, so, it is only 2 years worth of classes.

So how much is the cost difference for NU vs Cal State, taking living expenses into consideration?

If the cost isn’t too different, I’d stick with NU. Most employers probably don’t know the difference between B. Phil and BA/BS from NU. From the academic standpoint, the program at NU is far superior. Unlike most other extension/continuing education programs, NU’s program is not the watered-down version of the traditional undergrad program. On the other hand, I used to live in LA and know people in Cal State; the caliber of the students/classes are not going to be comparable.
