Does anyone know how good the male soccerteam at northwestern is?
I'm an international student, I will send a video to try an get an athletic scholarship.
How hard is there to recieve one? On what level is NCAA (northwesten) compared to different european countries?

Northwestern Men’s Varsity soccer is currently ranked 12 in the nation. I don’t really have any other information, and the only reason I know this is because I saw them play on TV today.

Anyone else go a take on this? Maybe someone how recived a soccerscholarship can tell what level you consider yourself to be on?

Northwestern plays in NCAA division I which is the highest level of college play in the nation and like lilgreentr11 said, is ranked very high. I think it was even ranked as high as 2 at one point last year but I cant be sure.

It is very difficult. Send the tape, as I have no idea how you stack up. But it is at a VERY high level of competition.

Ok, I was just trying to get an idea of the level. But I’ve looked around on different team and looked for player from my country. and when I read about them it seems like they played at about the same level as me in my country. So, I guess that a good sign…

All I can do is hope. :)

You should definitely contact the coaching staff–Coach Lenahan is simply amazing and I know he will give you serious consideration. Also, there are quite a few starters that graduate this year so you never really know if they might need you (especially if you play defense).

If you do send a video to Lenahan, be sure to let me know so I can tell my BF (who plays on the team) to ask Coach about it. Best of luck!

I’ll probably send a video in the end of next week
The problem is that I don’t have alot of footage right know, but I’m getting some next week, so I will have to play well! and I’m playing on a higher level next week than I’m used to, but it sould not be that much higher. So i’ll be fine… I hope :P

Well, I play offense usually. But I’ve played defense several times to, so everything except GK.
of course, I do prefer forward :P

I also play on a higher level than high school level right know (I think, I’m obviously not aware of the level in the US.) We don’t have teams in our school, we play in clubs. So now I play with, how should I say - the adults (of course the collegeplayer are adults too )which I assume most of the High school kids in the US havn’t done hopefully that can be at my advatage … or maybe not

But it’s not on a professional level though - I know your not allowed to have play on a professional level to play in the NCAA ;)

I’m not the most informed, but I think most US boys aspiring to college soccer are banking on their “club”, not their “high school” teams. I think if you are on a highly ranked club soccer team as a junior in high school, tournaments are when and the way to be seen (for example, Thanksgivings Surf Cup or Nomads Tournaments in San Diego …Surf is more competitive, harder to be accepted to). Here’s a link to some club soccer rankings and the tournaments they play in, but the ranking is seriously flawed.

I’d love to hear otherwise!

Aha, ok … I’ve just got the impression that alot of the sport in the US is connected with school. My bad :)

Not for soccer. High school soccer is considered a bit of a “joke” among club soccer players, and maybe a way to get injured playing against less serious players… but it’s lots of fun!

Almost everyone on the team played club soccer instead of for their school team, and those that did played at high schools with competitive soccer programs were also involved with local/metro clubs or ODP (Olympic Development Program). For what it’s worth, it sounds like you’re at the same level.

Sounds good! I’ll have to play for all I’m worth this coming week, so my video turn out good.

Does anyone knew if the coaches have recruited a player thru a video in the last years? Or from where do they usually recruit?
