its soo nerve wrecking!

I’m going to apply next year as a transfer applicant to WCAS as a economics major. Do I have to have completed all of the distribution requirement courses before entering NU or can I be in the process of completing them and finish them at NU ?

Thanks !

@zack

As a transfer student who JUST finished all her distros at NU, you definitely do not have to have them done before you transfer.

HEY radio!! Can u tell me how it was to transfer to nwstern? I hope to get it. I hear they are transfer friendly =) is the process as holistic as I think it is? what is it like there in evanston? dont tell me cold, i was born in chicago, but now im an adult… i wonder.

Hey everybody. I am a sophomore econ major, and have taken 3 semesters at Northeastern University in boston. I am looking to transfer to a WUSTL, U Chicago, Northwestern type of school. Can anybody give me some advice on whether I am qualified to apply to these schools, and maybe some other schools I should look at. Here are my Credentials.

High school GPA:
B- to B average at respected boarding school
College:
Freshman fall: 3.2
Freshman Spring: 3.6
Sophomore Fall: 3.8
QPA 3.54

SAT: CR: 680, Mth: 660, W 640

ECs: on the squash team, investment club, econ society, community service

Currently on an internship as financial analyst at National defense contractor
Thinking about doing national outdoor leadership program for 6 months before I would apply.

Once internship ends, will be doing a semester abroad at the London School of Economics

I was really lazy in high school, but have gotten increasingly motivated, and Northeastern just isn’t cutting it academically. Thanks so much for your input.

anyone got decisions?

Would anyone who has successfully transferred to NU as an incoming sophomore mind answering a few questions via pm/email? I’m planning to apply for Fall 2010 admission and there’s a few things I’d like to discuss. Thanks.

Phantom - I transferred in as a soph. PM me with whatever questions you might have; I’ll do my best to answer.

Hey I’m planning on transferring to Northwestern from Grand Rapids Community College. I have a 3.7 gpa and I am currently in my sophomore year. I have great recommendations from the congressman of Illinois and from other professors from Northwestern, Depaul, and Roosevelt University. Still I’m concerned about my essay. I want to make sure its hitting hard enough for me to get in. Would anyone be willing to read my essay and critique it? I would love more advice.

i’m a freshman in uiuc, industrial engineering

i’m planning to transfer to northwestern in my junior year, after i complete my sophomore year. (i feel that one year in uiuc is insufficient for me to get to know if i should transfer, so i would prefer to stay for two)

is this possible? as in, are my odds likely? and what is it about having to not take upper classes or i wont be eligible for the transfer, i dont get it.

bdw, im an international student too

and beside what classes i cannot take, what classes must i take to be considered a transfer student?

does northwestern accept credits from classes that are taken the summer before enrollment? that is, if i were accepted as an incoming sophomore, would credits from summer classes i plan to take this coming summer be transferred to NU for the coming fall? my first term of freshman year is a little low on credits because of registration/AP credit mishaps.

btw, sorry if the answer to my my Q was already addressed–i only read the comments on the first and last pages of the thread (tired).

i got into northwestern out of high school but couldn’t go because of money and i made the financial constraint very clear to them when telling them i couldn’t go any longer (i initially sent in my deposit in may). does the fact that i got into the school initially help my chances for transferring, or does that fact hurt my chances since i already turned them down, even though i made the reason very clear?

thanks in advance

Hi all,

Like many in this forum, the more and more I examine Northwestern, it really does appear to be the right school for me. I currently attend The New School in NYC; the academic structure is brilliant, but the people and lack of campus really subtract from what could be an intellectually stimulating environment.

So, that being said, here are my stats:

College GPA: 3.9
Extra-curriculars: Theatre. Ten years of professional experience. Part of on-campus theatre clubs, as well as city activities.
Strong work experience (demonstrates longevity)
Strong writer
Close relationship with professors, which will undoubtedly lead to strong recommendations.
Dean’s list

HS Stats (not as impressive due to a mental breakdown sophomore year)
GPA: 3.6 (weighted); 3.3 (non-weighted)
ACT: 28 (would consider re-taking)
TONS of extra-curriculars, and stellar letters of rec.

Would like to transfer into the School of Communication as a performance studies major.

Your thoughts, however critical, will be appreciated.

I’m applying for transfer with similar stats. My college GPA is near perfect (probably a 4.0 by the end of second semester) from a competitive, liberal arts college. My high school GPA isn’t dismal, but exactly stellar. I’m from the area around Northwestern and I’ve met kids who’ve transferred there (from say, DePaul) with 2.9-3.1 GPAs in high school. Northwestern does favor obvious improvements from high school to college - but because it’s so competitive, nothing is a sure bet. I think what will really make you an appealing candidate would be:

Maintaining your GPA

Retaking the ACT (get at least a 30 composite)

Your letters

Your ECs

ESSAYS ESSAYS ESSAYS (they’ve got to be fantastic - Northwestern values capable writers more than a lot of other schools)

Otherwise, I think you’re definitely competitive. What’s nice about a school like Northwestern is that they give kids who didn’t do so great in high school a second chance at enrolling at a top institution. Good luck!

Hey guys, I´m looking as well to transfer and Northwestern is my top choice.

I started to bloom academically senior year of high school so everything before that is pretty bad…including my SAT scores (1900). Before senior year: 3.5 unweighted, 4.02 weighted. Senior year took 5 AP and two semester long courses with UMCP: 3.8 weighted, 4.8 weighted, B and an A in the courses. I went to Oregon invited into society of college scholars. Took Latin 101, German 101, Phil 421, Hist 466 and got A, A plus, A minus, B plus. 3.86 GPA. Wondering if I could get some advice on transfering, maybe if I should try to talk about my progress for essays, if I indeed have a chance of getting in.

does anyone know how difficutl each of NU’s school’s is in terms of transferring, from most transfer friendly to least?
more specifically, how competitive is it to transfer as either a bio, chem, psych, or math major? i’m a psych major at my current school but i’m looking to do a more hard sciences/math major if accepted a NU. Also, does NU accpet more sophomore or junior transfers? And does anyone know if there are more soph xfer applicants than junior xfer applicants or vice versa?

I’m currently a senior in high school, probably going to DePaul and looking to transfer to NU afterwards

3.92 GPA (All A’s and only 2 B’s throughout high school)
10 Honors/AP courses throughout high school
22 ACT - Will definitely retake and improve.
40 Hours of community service with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office
Worked at a movie theater for a year while going to school and still maintained a 4.0 gpa in that time frame.
Will begin work at Discover Card in January, and I will be pursuing a Finance and Economics major (will already have experience basically).

When I go to Chicago, I plan on doing volunteer work for my church.

If I can maintain a 3.8+ in college, with these high school stats, what are my chances?

Does being an ex-freshman admission waitlistee who faithfully remained on the waitlist till the bitter end help?
