Northwestern Thread for Transfer Students

does anyone know when they release the decisions?

so many questions...so few answers..

Activities - right now I have a bulleted list with short explanations; I'm not sure if this will be my final format. They don't ask about any kind of academic awards or honors - is anyone including them? If so, where? (additional info or activities or somewhere else)

I'd imagine that they see basically the same thing that you see, since they did include various font and formatting options in their form. I wouldn't go crazy with them, though.

College transcript - I asked them, and they said that they wait to evaluate your application until you send in second semester grades.

Decisions - I've heard of people hearing as late as June 28, but I don't know the range of dates that they release decisions.

i asked my high school counselor to list my academic awards and honors on my high school transcript. as for college i asked my dean to do the same on the dean's recommendation...

I just got an email from one of the ppl in the admissions office.

"The application deadline is May 1, 2006. Your application will be submitted by that deadline, but not reviewed until after your second semester grades have been received by our office. The admissions committee here requires all transfer applicants to have completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of credit before any application will be reviewed. After your second semester has ended, you'll be responsible for making sure your current universities transcript issuing office knows that we need a second semester transcript sent to Northwestern, and arrange with them payment and delivery options.

You application will be reviewed and a decision will be made sometime between the middle of June and the end of July depending on when we receive your second semester grades, and when your application is completed."

i.e.- if you're applying as a sophomore (and likely don't have 24 credits from just the 1st semester) they wait till your 2nd semester grades come in.

ok, another question about activities... do you think we should divide them into those in hs and college? or should we just write them in order of importance no matter when engaged in them?

I created like a format for all of it last year and added on the College EC's in a diff. section. I broke it down by EC's in HS, Outside of HS/in my community, College, Awards/Honors, Work Experience, Service Experience. It was like a 4 page word document & all of it showed up when I copied/pasted it in.

I could send you a copy of it if you want to look at the format & just plug in what you did instead.

I ask that you suffer one more “transfer chances” question:

My Story:

High school: 2.9gpa
ACT: 23- first time, 24-second time…taken junior year of high school

Accepted to Murray State University for Computer Science
Dropped all classes except English-101
Left Murray after one semester with a 2.0 gpa

…here is the point where I get my life together

Fall 2005 I enroll at University of Kentucky
4.0 first semester

4.0 spring (current) semester (taking senior level political science classes)
This semester I was offered the position of co-author on two papers by two separate political science professors. I also spent this semester as an assistant on political science research project. I have also been allowed to enroll in a graduate level political science class next semester (fall 06). I am taking the most challenging courses that I can and am pulling a 4.0. I know that I can get some awesome letters of recommendation from the political science department here at UK. Also I have a connection (through a Professor here at UK) to a Political Science professor at Northwestern who is going to try and support my transfer. I am retaking the ACT this May and score 34-36 on the practice tests I have been taking. Writing a killer essay will not be a problem.

I want to transfer after completing one more year here at UK so I can finish a paper I am working on with a Professor and submit it for publication.

Will my high school and Murray disasters keep me from getting accepted? Any help would be much appreciated.

If they hit the high end of transfer applicants for the past couple years for Northwestern that would mean about a 15% acceptance rate

bummerrrrr

is the northwestern deadline tonite or tomorrow nite- still working on my essays and I feel likeI shud sleep over them-

When is the nootification date? UCLA needs my SIR by June 1. :(

Northwestern approximated in an email back to me that they would get them back, "between the middle of June and the end of July depending on when we receive your second semester grades"

Thats retarded. I need to respond by UCLA by June 1. Northwestern, you suck.

"Northwestern approximated in an email back to me that they would get them back, "between the middle of June and the end of July depending on when we receive your second semester grades"

thats really funny, b/c i am already at Cornell, and accepted by U of Chicago and Rice....i am not upset by this (i just think its ridiculous)

ditto. I think they're the latest school to send out a response.

does anyone know what we're supposed to do if we have to reply back to another school by june 1 and then hear back from northwestern and if we're lucky get in and want to go? just lose the $500 deposit, i guess?

i sent an email to nu asking htem that. its stupid cuz i actually applied in november and htey didn't get my transcripts in time.
