Northwestern Transfer 2015 fall

It seems like another round of decisions will come out this Thursday…

Heard back today, 7pm CST.
First acceptance of my transfer apps!! I got in for Bioengineering. If anyone is interested in hearing about how I got in, let me know. I am shocked, to be honest. Wasn’t expecting this at all!

@MonocleLewinsky Congrats! Are you attending?
7pm CST is 9pm in IL…I though decisions will only be released during work hours

@jquery I just went down a rabbithole trying to figure out the difference between CST and CDT. I also realized that I received the email at 5:15pm Chicago time, but didn’t get the notification on my phone until 7. I apologize for the confusion. And I’m still waiting to hear back from a few schools (Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Rice, UVA and UPenn)

Rejected last week. Most likely going to UC Berkeley! :slight_smile:

@MonocleLewinsky I’m also applying to Duke and Rice. Are you a rising sophomore? What do you think help you most in getting in?
Also I just realized I mistaken CST as the time in west [C]oast…

@jqery Actually, about to start my junior year. My grades are pretty subpar compared to admissions standards (dropped from a 3.8 to a 3.6 last semester) but sent a midterm report that showed I had all As this semester, which must have helped considerably. To make up for it, my essays were really strong and rec letters were stellar (two professors I do research with, one of whom is my departmental advisor/honors college advisor and a director of undergraduate studies, and a professor I TA for). I’m VP of our school’s BMES chapter and tutor, have a few internships under my belt. I don’t think one thing in particular tipped the scales in my favor, but rather the combination of everything in hopes that their review was holistic and didn’t focus on just my college GPA.

@MonocleLewinsky What I find difficult to transfer during freshman year is that I don’t have the chance to get familiar with prof in research or classes, and being a new member to all student organizations. I think I’ll reapply next year if I’m not accepted this time :frowning:

@jquery I really think you have a good chance, be patient.

@MonocleLewinsky congrats! What was your SAT/ACT?

@kiekers Thank you! ACT was a 35, didn’t take the SAT.

@jquery It’s all about putting yourself out there, I’ve held both research positions since my first semester freshman year. Of course, it helped that the school I go to is not very challenging so I had a lot of free time to get to know the department. Visit their office hours, take honest interest in their work and you’ll be well on your way, though I doubt you’ll have any difficulty transferring this year :slight_smile:

Still nothing today… My file is comple on

They give decisions on Wesnesdays?

@Transfersquared Sorry… Just ignore my last post, I don’t even know when I press “send”

actually i think last week some decisions came out on wednesday

the cruelness of rolling decision

Hey CC!

I also got my acceptance yesterday and am hoping the luck continues for the rest of my applications! I got in as a rising sophomore and undecided. I’m not too sure if I will end up going to Northwestern, depending on financial aid, but I am happy to answer any questions others might have about my app!

@scandal Congrats! Would you mind sharing ur stats?

@jquery Sure!

As a rising sophomore, I didn’t really get to be that involved with my college (perhaps just a fault of my own), but I tried to make the most of the things that I did get involved in (primarily programming team and breakdancing at local competitions). I had a GPA of 4.0 and an SAT of 2270 which probably helped a lot, and I also think that my essays were fairly good. I got my recs from my high school teachers since I only had my professors for a semester each and didn’t really take an opportunity to get to know them, but I felt that my high school teachers would know me a bit better too since I’ve had them for a longer period of time.

Hope this helps!

Hey guys, got into CAS yesterday, still waiting on some other schools though. File completed on April 17 (I know, very late).

My stats:
School: Top 5 US News, rising sophomore
cGPA: 3.5-3.75
High school GPA: 3.3-3.4 (elite New England prep, this was considered pretty good), 17 AP exams
SAT: 2400 single sitting, 800 Math II, 770 USH, 720 Bio
EC: Consensus HS All-American, All-conference, All-state athlete. Published in medical research. Nat’l Merit Scholar, Presidential Scholar, Nat’l AP Scholar, Nat’l Honor Society, Certified concert pianist. Student Athlete Rep in Student Government. School Newspaper editor. Online blogger (~1 million followers). Tons of community service. Other normal clubs and stuff.

Psyched to get that NU acceptance, but am gonna have to weigh my options when everything is said and done (anyone know if NU is good with financial aid? Unfortunately, my parents and I are not in agreement with my decision to transfer and so I will have to pay the next 3 years. On my own, I can only manage maybe 25-30k a year.)
