Hey, I just finished my freshman year at Union College in New York (36th, 1st tier lib. arts USNews rankings) My college GPA after three trimesters is 3.9, I got a 1430 on the old SAT (V: 800 M: 630) and while in college I participated in several extracurriculars such as Hillel, wrote for the newspaper, and had a radio show. I am applying to several places, but Northwestern rests solidly atop this list, and I am just wondering if maybe taking a class at summer school there this summer (I think you can still apply..) will help my chances, and what are my chances otherwise do you suppose?
Thanks a lot in advance.

honestly, nobody?

I'm not one to give advice or decide whether someone will get in...but I think you have a really good chance! I just got into Northwestern as a transfer...and as long as you show extreme interest in the school and prove to them that you deserve to go there, you won't have any problems! You have great stats (I had horrible SATS but a great GPA and extracurrics)...just make sure you write killer essays...and make sure they are VERY personal and show who you are. Northwestern doesn't want to be impressed w/ an overabundance of high vocabulary or random, fluttering metaphors and images...they want to get to know you! Wear your heart on ur sleeve. (<---but don't use cliches...lol)

I'd also apply for the School of Communication. Your interests appear to stem from that area of study.

And don't listen to these losers who think that you have to have a perfect SAT or GPA or list of extracurriculars to get into the college of your dreams. Be yourself, and that's all that a college can ask for.

Thanks, that helps alot actually.

hehe, i don't even remember what i wrote in my essays. NU's application was the last one i did and everything just flew out of me. i was so stressed out and just wanted to get away with the thing. still got in though lol ) and my test scores were awful
