I had the choice between Chicago and Duke (and Cornell) and I chose Chicago right after Blue Devil Days haha…
I think Duke is a great university, has a very intelligent student body, excellent academics and pre-med placement, however, it’s not for me. The prospective students I met were too normal and boring…they were people you’d expect to have lived in the sheltered suburbs their entire lives.
Also, Duke students do self segregate into cliques. Either you are in a sorority (40% girls) or you are not. Either you are social or you are not. Either you live in Brown (the selective healthy living dorm that bans alcohol) or you do not. There are very few people who break these social barriers. Then again, most colleges have the same problem of self segregation. It is simply a reality, perhaps more exaggerated at Duke because of the big frat and sports scene.

I picked Chicago for its Core and amazing academics. If you want to go to college simply as a track to a medical career, then maybe Chicago isn’t for you. The aim of education? There is none. Read or skim this article, it may help you decide.
