I've seen your threads before -- you're from India, right? (I could be remembering someone else.)

Anyways, I think that your extracurricular activities are really good and your numbers are excellent as well. I wouldn't be surprised if you got into all three of the schools in your title, as long as you have good essays.

why for the this?

For the advisor thing, just ask the advisor to send a letter to the schools. :)

I also think you're in at NU ED!

bumping this !

I'm not terribly knowledgeable about college admissions, but I like your EC and honors list. It doesn't have anything crazily amazing on it but is still very impressive, unlike my short list of lameness. I think you have a pretty good shot at all of those colleges, but I'd like to ask if you are in-state for any of them? Like UM maybe? And I believe I heard something about JHU requiring you to report major when applying, though I don't know if it's true or not. Which department are you applying for there? I'm sure their BME for example would be much harder to get into than their, idk, Russian studies or something (naming random thing that came to mind).

thanks teaovercoffee, im international! :) taking a year off right now and as soon as i apply ( in 10 days) im off doing community work and travelling across india!

ANY SAFETIES RECOMMENDED?

Hi setiaabhik!

First off, I'd like to say that all of the schools you're applying to are very good schools. You have obviously challenged yourself and performed decently in high school, with a decent 3.7 UW GPA + a rigorous HS curriculum. Your SAT I results are also very strong, placing you in the Top 1% in the US with a 2200 composite. Your scores indicate that you are stronger in the math and sciences than in the arts. That is okay. Our brains are each wired differently and designed to function in their own unique way (the best I can do in art class is to draw a stick figure ... if you know what I mean). If you want to only increase your SAT by 50 points, I would strongly go against retaking the SAT. Your scores are already very fine for the schools you're applying to, especially at Michigan. Scores don't mean everything, unless you can boost up your total up by a 3 digit number. 50 points don't mean much in front of admission officers. Remember - they review your application holistically. SAT scores can never tell everything about an applicant. They want to know about YOU. Your AP scores will earn you some credit at some schools. However, I am aware that Northwestern only recognizes AP grades of 5. Other than that, your ECs look decent and you seem to be quite a skilled debater. Good for you. I will note that school-wide honors usually do not mean much for admission officers. There are people applying to your schools who have won state-wide, nation-wide, and even international awards. However, just because you don't have those qualifications doesn't mean you won't get into the top schools.

Usually, schools will include a space for supplemental recs. If they don't, just give it to your HS guidance counselor and they'll attach it to their own recs. Don't worry about it.

Overall, you are obviously a very good student who has done much in HS. You'll likely be admitted into at least one of the schools you're applying to. I recommend that you write very good essays to improve your chances of admission to the top schools, but nothing is a guarantee. Also, I'm personally NOT a college admission officer, so everything I chance here may very well be wrong. (that's my disclaimer btw) I'm simply just another HS student roaming about here on CC.

Northwestern U: Match
John Hopkins: Match
Michigan: Match (but keep in mind that UMich does drop ALL freshman classes and electives)
Vanderbilt: Match
Illinois: Safety match
Chicago: Depends on your essays. Your stats are in line with the people they admit.
Columbia: Reach
Wisconsin Madison: Safety

*At the publics, OOS admission is usually more difficult than for IOS.

ab2013 thanks for an insightful post!

i decided not to retake the sat, not much point anyway.

chance away people!
