Northwestern University Early Decision thread 2010

NU’s popularity skyrocketed this year. (and NU is just the best and stuff…)

I told my recommender that we may find out tomorrow, and she started jumping up and down. It was cute.

Okay so I have just read this whole entire thread! Thanks for distracting me from homework everyone :).
I’m only a junior but I know I want Northwestern and no other school is close. I’m def applying ED next year. (to SESP for Social policy)
Destroyer- your a piece of work  (in a good way)
I hope you guys get in, I’m excited to see if you do! I’m anxious and nervous for you all, GOOD LUCK! I wish I was applying this year too.
I get stressed and nervous about stuff like this and count the minutes (even seconds) until things so I kinda understand, plus a lot of my friends who are seniors now are also going crazy.
Wish you all the best, can’t wait to see your admittance’s! :)

HOLY **** all my friends are hearing from their schools and its KILLING ME. I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT NU RIGHT NOW AHHHH

Uh oh. I was a QuestBridge non-finalist. Hopefully non-finalists didn’t get those emails.

SwimmingChicken –

Lucky you! It sure sounds like an acceptance to me, and you get to decide when you’d like to receive the official letter! I’m sure plenty of kids here would love to be in your shoes today. Congratulations, because I have no doubt that to get such a letter must have, in addition to demonstrating QB eligibility, represented a lot of hard work and many accomplishments on your part!

– Oops… the post/letter I was responding to just disapperated! ;-)

I am pretty confident that it was not bogus. I am not sure if it would be ok to post emails on this forum. Anyways, that email was sent following the Questbridge National College Match, which I was not matched through. I’m sure all of you are nervous but good luck potential future Wildcats! :D

Sorry if what I posted earlier offended you. I just meant that it seemed uncharacteristic of the university, but it sounds like it’s definitely legitimate. It must have been great to get a surprise early letter from NU. Congratulations! What school did you apply to?

@ destroyer. hilarious lol. so some people already got decisions? this waiting is killing me. I think we will most likely get decisions on monday though

I don’t mean to creep…but I am…oh well.

I think the same thing that happened to SwimmingChicken is what happened to me last year. It’s legitimate, you can decide to go ED or just wait and have a guaranteed safety in Northwestern…I chose the latter.

Okay, I’m done being a creep, good luck everyone!

@ Momcares

Thank you for your kind words!

@ GracesEkphrasis
Don’t worry about… I would probably be skeptical too if I heard that about a school that I was applying early decision to. And thanks! It was really unexpected and I applied to Weinberg under biological sciences and pre-med. How about you? :)

@ oxymoronicalgem
Thanks for the “creeping” post
Yeah I was pretty excited about the email.

This QB discussion has reawakened one of my sleeping questions…

Between recruited athletes, QB and former Cherubs, I wonder how many “regular” people are actually admitted ED? With a 25% increase in ED applicants, which I assume was mainly composed of “regular” candidates, I wonder if the odds of getting admitted RD will actually be higher than ED this year? I assume they’ll either admit a higher % of the class through ED or offer more Deferrals this year, but after the dust settles it will be interesting to see.

@ SwimmingChicken

You could have just taken my spot :stuck_out_tongue:
That’s exactly what I applied to.

Congrats though!!

I can’t believe everyone is finding out so soon… I can’t wait another 5 days!

Relax! It’s out of your control and nothing you can do can change that.
Your stats are all great and you will know if you get in a matter of hours/days. I know first hand how stress can tear you apart and your almost at the end of the road now. Just a few more days and you’ll be home free and into college!
Try to enjoy you’re senior year! (and stay positive)

MomCares, I don’t believe applying through Questbridge gives your app the same kind of boast as, say, being a recruited athlete. The people who can get in through QB can do just as well if they apply through regular action with everyone else as one of the supposedly “regular” applicants, and many low-income students who do qualify for QB indeed apply as regular applicants. The QB application merely gives a student more room to explain circumstances in their lives that cannot be adequately expressed in the common application.

Btw, good luck to everyone!!

I’m in the same position as Swimming Chicken. I really think the reason we got the email was that we (or at least me) were too “regular”" for the QB scholarship. I definately don’t think we get the same benefits as recruited athletes. We might get a little boost for low income and extra early review, but I was told not to apply through QB because I didn’t have a good enough story to compare. I’m glad I didn’t listen, of course.

Also, I was pretty skeptical of the email at first too. In fact, I’m still waiting for someone to show up and tell me it was some kind of joke. I switched my application to ED so I’m waiting with the rest of you for my official letter. Reading through this thread really brings back all the nerve-wracking waiting for QB, I hope everyone here gets in!

How many and what schools have released their ED decisions? Any of them? Just curious :)

@ erjeps
Thanks! Hopefully you’ll get in too! :D

Columbia and Cornell are out. Columbia’s really rough.

this is probably the biggest ED thread of all time.
