Northwestern University Early Decision thread 2010

Lol hopefully I can access my CAESAR account today so that I can view my FA ;_;

bio number two in the nation? Where did you hear that olleger?

^^ Bio number 2 in the nation seems pretty interesting…

I would also like to know where you heard that from? :)

I was warned. My dad said that when he got his NU ED acceptance letter the envelope was paper-thin and he was postitive it was a dud.

When I got mine it was small too, just the letter, a piece of paper telling me how to pay tuition, and a small folder that repeated the paper’s information. It was small enough to fit flat in one manilla envelope.

You should call them or check your spam mail. Even though I added NU admissions as a contact on my email, I got the fateful acceptance email from the SPAM folder.

That was lucky I checked.

Has anyone had success accessing CAESAR yet? It’s been over twenty four hours but I still can’t get on. I can log in to NU Validate, where you plug in the original activation code, but not CAESAR. Is there anything we need to do besides the activation code, and will we receive an email once it has been activated? If I still can’t get access by tomorrow afternoon I think I’ll email them.

For some reason, DD was able to get into CAESAR pretty much instantly. She set up her accounts and got right in without waiting 24 hours.

For what it’s worth… there is no FA info for her there yet.

I still haven’t heard anything yet! Is anyone else still waiting?

My CEASAR account worked instantly. the nickname emails tho dont.

Anyone know exactly when we are going to hear back for FA?

INNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN BABY! See you all in Evanston. 34 ACT, 3 5s on APs, top 2%, mediocre ECs (varsity football and volleyball captain, president of 1 club that’s it). Strong essays and recs.

Did anyone else get their financial aid info? They were extremely generous to me. extremely.

Congratulations to everyone that got in - or tried to get in.

Here’s another site to visit if you are going to be or are a Wildcat Fan:

[Sippin’ On Purple - For Northwestern Wildcats Fans](http://www.sippinonpurple.com/)

^totally agree to above link- get ready to cheer and bleed purple! Watch your future alma mater in the TicketCity Bowl on Jan. 1 (if you’re in TX, maybe you should go and get a head start!).

^^^ My FA was terrible. All loans. Is this typical…?

I got almost all grants except 5500 in loans

destroyer, what was your EFC? u can find it out pretty closely if you go to NU cost site. that determines the amt of aid . If it is 15 pct of COA (I believe $8400) or less, you’ll get lots of grants , not as much loans.

[College Cost Calculator: Northwestern University - Undergraduate Financial Aid](http://ug-finaid.northwestern.edu/college_cost_calculator.html)

per college board, the avg grant/loan distribution composing the FA (that covers unmet need defined by COA-EFC) pkg is 78/22.

[College Search - Northwestern University - NU - Cost & Financial Aid](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

FA was the biggest reason I liked NU. But that is because we are financially needy. If one is not as needy, then it might not be as good with FA.

mediocre? now I know why my son did not pass the audition for this finishing school, I mean college. mostly he likes to study. what a concept for a student.

But it is a great place for all of you who got in. Congratulations and best of luck at NU.

my EFC was 12,300

that is one good FA pkg with a 12.3 EFC and for a school with a 55k COA.

wanna know a secret? the 8400 figure is the threshold where NU will pay for EVERYTHING, over a quarter of a million dollars over four years. THis is probably one of the other reasons my son was not let in. that is a lot of bread to let out of the house. I assume that they do this level of giving for a certain quota, probably the QB candidates - wehad not heard about QB till too late. Pure need blind is obviously impossible to fully implement. they dont have a 4.4 b endowment by losing too much money. kinda like trust but verify. or need blind, but keep an eye open under the blindfold and watch your quota of charity cases.

and the other great thing about NU FA policy is that it caps loans over a 4 yr period to 20k (subject to policy change, probably, but still…). So the guy above who had lots of loans, WHEN it gets to 20k, it is capped and the rest is grants. I liked this part of the policy since our financial neediness might change down that road and I knew there was a safety net.

so this is a great safety net for people and the nmbr one reason I signed off on a ED decision. it stops a free fall.

olleger, did nt NU say anything about the loan cap in the letter? call them up and ask them about it. They told me over the phone about it. I have to admit that I had to cajole it out of them (I had heard about it on a link to a site I found on CC). maybe this is something they don’t want to advertise so much? who knows?

here it is. looks like there are some caveats to it.

http://ug-finaid.northwestern.edu/topics/prospective/scholarships_grants.html</a></p>

and here is the bit about giving grants to all eligible…I got the 8400 figure as the threshold for this FA from the FAO on the phone.

This is only true of loans to the STUDENT. Our package is ALL loans, and believe me they are NOT capped at 20k!!
