Northwestern University Engineering Question

I’m a student applying RD to Northwestern University for chemical engineering. I have decent, not great, scores, 770 Math 2, 760 Chem, 2140 SAT (CR730 M760 W650), ACT 32 (Math 34, Science 33, English 28, Writing 8). I know my subject test scores are not stellar but I never took any AP Chemistry (I take IB) and I am currently taking AP Calculus AB (as well as 4 other AP courses and another IB course), I have a decent GPA (4.1 with weight) and I’d like to know if I have a good shot of getting into the engineering program. I’m curios if my writing scores are likely to harm my application. Also I’d like to know if I don’t get into the engineering program, is it possible for me to still be accepted and major in chemistry?
I have good ECs (tutoring, 3 varsity sports, NHS, jazz band etc.) two good letters of rec (from my English and Economics teachers) and decent essays for application. Lastly, I got a 4 on AP Lang and a 5 on AP Micro, should I report these scores or will they not really help an application for engineering?

If you are asking Chances, that guessing game is a different section. You will know soon enough if you have applied. W is usually used least if at all. I think the CDS lists if it is considered or not. AP scores aren’t usually used for admissions. Strong overall colleges like NU like their engineering students to be strong all arounders so strength in other areas is very positive.

  1. You can't apply to more than one undergraduate college at NU - if engineering it was, then so it will be
  2. Even if you could apply to Weinberg (chemistry) as well, there is little overall difference in the qualifications of their admits compared with McCormick.
  3. Yes, you certainly are a strong, competitive applicant. Proviso here being the (sorry for resorting to cliches) crap shoot that is college applications at this level these days.
  4. Good news - Northwestern historically is indifferent to the writing section of the SAT

Best of luck
