Northwestern University or Johns Hopkins University for ED? Need advice.

I have visited both colleges and am in love with both. My mind is torn between the two. My focus is public policy, econ, poli sci, pre law track. That aligns perfectly with NU however I also have an interest in public related health and bio which would be perfect for JHU.

At this point I like them equally and am considering NU SESP (social policy major) ED or JHU ED.
Because of their equity in terms of preference I would appreciate any feedback on the best chance for me to get in.

GPA 3.7 UW
3.6 Soph
3.86 JR
4.15 W
3.7 Soph
4.7 Jr
2210 SAT

680 Bio 760 USH (taking math 2 and lit in fall)
5 apush, lang 4, bio apwh

all my extra circulars, essays, and Letters show major direction in poli sci and public policy with several internships with governmental organizations, campaigns, and debate captain.

Thanks for any feedback.

Imagine that you’ve been admitted to both. Which would you choose? If you can’t decide, perhaps you need more thorough “due diligence” visits. It may sound crazy, but when you apply ED, you need to have that mindset.

My D2 fell in love with a school that we visited during April vacation junior year. In the fall, she visited another school that she was keen on and did a full sleepover visit. She was still leaning to the April school. Finally, she revisited the school she fell in love with, doing a sleepover there in October. She went to classes, talked to a professor, etc. She was sure. ED, end of story.

Both schools have more graduate students than undergrads; the difference is more pronounced at JHU.

A friend who went to Hopkins for undergrad said it was a major influence on all aspects of life there, the grad students were doing the research that was the purpose of the university, the undergrads were second class. I don’t know anyone who went to NW so I cannot offer a direct comparison.

NW is supposed to be in a very nice area. JHU is beautiful on campus, but it’s an isolated island of nice in the middle of some bad neighborhoods in Baltimore; you won’t spend a lot of time walking in the city near (off) JHU’s campus.

Undergrads definitely aren’t 2nd-class at NU. I can say that. It is a research university, though.

Arun: as long as you see either as “reach” schools. The fact is both NU and JHU will be extremely iffy in terms of getting in. Submit your UMich app before the Nov 1 deadline as well. Continue to research (especially make sure financial considerations are in line – can your parents afford either?). But make sure you have a realistic (and affordable) list of target colleges

Money is not a consideration at this point my parents make 300k+ I want to know the best shot I have of getting in.
I like both and I know for both schools ED can help quite a bit, with my relatively low GPA I wanted input on whether I should ED for JHU or NU SESP.

Thanks

Ask this in the chance section to get the best results.
“want to know the best shot I have of getting in.”

Ok thanks, will do

The Evanston campus is undergrad-focused. The medical and law schools are in downtown Chicago.
