My son was recently accepted to Barrett Honors College (ASU) and Northwestern University.

Major is uncertain, likely liberal arts ( Political Science, Econ, etc)

If cost wasn't an "big" issue (big assumption) and he was planning on attending grad school at some point.

Which is the wiser choice? and what are the trade offs

ie...finding work upon graduation, does an udergrad degree matter if you attend a top grad school ( JD or MBA) ?

To a certain degree, where you went to school doesn’t matter at all, many successful people graduate from ‘no-name’ colleges.

To another degree, it can matter. Both the College and the Grad school are on your resume.

As far as which to go to – putting cost aside – Northwestern is much higher ranked and has a much better reputation. Intangible factors (location, weather, which school appeals more to your son) will vary from person to person.

northwestern will get you a job quicker than barrett will probably

Thanks for the quick reply.

Do you think a 4.0 at Barrett is viewed the same as a 3.5 at NWU by hiring companies and grad schools ?

jetsfan: makes sense; do you think more “desireable” firms go to NWU vs ASU ?
