I’m just wondering if it’s worth applying… I have nearly a 4.0 (3.97 to be exact) I’ve taken/am taking the following AP classes: AP Lang, AP Lit, AP physics, AP Calc, AP Government and Politics, AP psychology. And have been in several laude classes. I do a ton of extra curriculars, including: marching band (I’ve been a section leader the past 2 years), musical theatre, students working as teachers, ignition mentoring, class officers (like class president, both sophomore and senior years) , nhs, yearbook, and I’m in a very selective singing ensemble at my school. Some awards I’ve gotten include making into State Honors choir, and receiving an exemplary soloist award at solo and ensemble last year. I volunteer in the community, but not a ton, as I am often very busy at school. My ACT is really the thing holding me back though, I have a composite of a 27. If anyone could let me know what my chances would be that’d be awesome, thanks so much.
It’s always worth applying to a school you’re very interested in! However, Northwestern is extremely selective so despite a great GPA and lots of APs, it’s recommended to have something really noticeable and memorable on your application, such as a national award, unique EC, or very high standardized test scores. It’s still worth applying but you should plan on retaking the ACT and aim for a higher composite. Northwestern’s average range is 31 - 34
ACT is low. I would say, it depends on which school within Northwestern you want to go to. Yes for the music school. No for Medill. Maybe for the College of Arts and Sciences.
