Northwestern University's "full tuition awards"

<p>We recently received a letter from Northwestern University encouraging my son to apply and he maybe "eligible for a number of scholarship opportunities, including our most prestigious full tuition awards". </p>

<p>We know Northwestern University has very few merit scholarships except for music talented students so we wonder if anyone knows anything about the "full tuition awards". </p>

<p>This looks like a new initiative. NU offered some merit scholarships two years ago and the average was nowhere near full-tuition. Then they stopped offering them last year because of the bad economy. Maybe they decided they really need this to compete. Their yield has been particularly low in the past few years when they were losing more and more cross-admit battles with schools that they used to beat consistently because those schools have become increasingly generous.</p>
