for engineering? i'd appreciate any feedback thanks

Do you want a more traditional campus-centric community? Exciting urban life?one is not necessarily better than the other, but they ate certainly different and worth noting

yeah i am really at a loss, i love new york but sometimes i think it might be overwhelming so evanston would be a nice solice from the city. ughh this is extremely hard. i know columbia has more prestige associated with it, but i think northwestern's engineering school is just as good if not better than columbia's. quarter system vs. core curriculum... i don't even know which i prefer..

Sounds like you should go to NW. NYC can be quite a distraction indeed! (not to mention expensive...I was visiting NYC to get a travel visa and a sandwich, coffee, and vitamin water cost over $12!!!

Though if cost is a problem, Columbia has one of the most generous financial aid departments of any school. The average grant is about $32,000, and they're slowly eliminating all loans with grants.

And yea, NYC is expensive, but there's just so much to do there. There's really no comparison between it and Evanston. And even if you think you might get overwhelmed by the city, Columbia really is a "bubble" campus. The first time I went through the gates I couldn't believe that I was still in NY--I mean, the architecture is beautiful, the foliage is verdant, even the pavement is a style in itself.

Not to mention you're not too far from Central Park, which can be very relaxing.

Evanston doesn't hold a candle to NYC's offerings but Chicago certainly does.

Come weekends, Columbia's campus empties out as students hop on the subway and scatter across downtown.

Northwestern campus remains full of life. When students want a night downtown, they hop on the El and head to Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, Wrigleyville, Bucktown or take the Metra downtown.

The fact that they have all those choices is the key advantage Northwestern's great location and great campus offers.
