I'm a rising senior girl from NJ and I want to pursue engineering. So far, I'm considering applying ED to either NU, Cornell, or Vandy. In engineering, I want to pursue majors along the lines of: industrial engineering. engineering management/sciences, operations research and systems, etc. (all of these schools have their own version).

I know that statistically NU and Cornell have better engineering programs and are ranked higher overall than Vandy. I also want to go for an MBA in the future.

Anyone who's done any of these engineering programs please give feedback on your experience! I want to have a traditional college experience, where I can get my work done and have fun and be involved in the school too! Overall just compare schools in general I guess (social life, dorms, spirit, etc), but specifically the engineering

what about carnegie mellon ?

As you sort of indicated, I think Cornell is known to have the best engineering out of those 3. Unfortunately I am not an engineering student, but my friend is in the engineering school at Cornell and finds it very rigorous and quite challenging (no surprise). That is all I really know, sorry!

But as stated above, I would check out Carnegie Mellon… and even Harvey Mudd, Georgia Tech, and MIT.

Thanks zobroward and cakebatter for your input. I’ve narrowed my ED choices down to these three based on a variety of factors including distance from home, spirit and school environment etc. I’ve narrowed my choices down to these three and it’s a tough pick. I know that te engineering school at Cornell is very rigorous, and I’m worried about it being a bit competitive among the students. I want an engineering school that isn’t cut throat among students, good school spirit, and well connected with the job market. If anyone could share their experiences at the engineering schools at either of these three institutions that would be helpful. I also want to travel abroad at some point and I don’t want to be surrounded by engineering students all day so I guess diversity is important too lol

Northwestern and Cornell are ranked roughly the same for industrial engineering (NU #3 and Cornell #7). But Northwestern would have the edge if you combine IE with the Kellogg cert in managerial analytics:
[Managerial Analytics Certificate - Certificate Program for Undergraduates - Kellogg School of Management - Northwestern University](http://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/Certificate/academics/managerial-analytics-certificate.aspx)

IE is one of the more popular engg majors at NU; the IE majors that I knew seemed to have pretty balanced social life.

Thanks Sam lee! Super helpful
