Northwestern v. Wash U v. Emory v. Carnegie

Hey guys,

I would like to know your opinions on these four schools, and how they compare to one another for my desired field of study: Im looking to major in biology (cell / molecular) and concentrate as a pre-med with asparations of going to medical school... Just an academic comparison if you can...

Thanks!!

As far as the major goes, I think it's goes like
1. WashU
2. Northwestern
3. Emory
4. Carnegie

Thanks.... do you have any reasons why NU is above Emory... I have heard a lot about Emory's pre-med program but not too much about Northwestern's. It doesnt seem to be a main focus there like it is at Wash U or Emory

I was just thinking only about the bio-major. Premed isn't really a "program". You just take a year of calculus, chem, physics, bio, and the MCAT and you basically fulfill the requirement (someone premed may want to correct me if I am wrong). Med schools look for good recommendation, high MCAT score and good GPA. Schools that do well tend to be those that have great premed advising committee, good intro sciences classes that prepare you for MCAT, and grade inflation (med school doesn't care much (maybe just a little) if your school is known for grade inflation/deflation; they just want high GPA). WashU's med placement rate is in the low to mid-80s% while NU's placement, according to the lady in premed advising I talked to, has been around high 70s/low 80s. I don't know what Emory's rate is. The slight difference in NU and WashU's rate probably has something to do with the tough orgo curve NU has (no grade inflation). Someone has said NU's orgo (organic chem) is one of the toughest in the country. The grading curves for other classes aren't nearly as bad.
