Hi everyone, I’ve heard back from all my schools and it’s down to these two. I’m planning to major in film and eventually enter the industry; I’d like a program that offers a good balance of theory and production. NU would be Radio/Television/Film and Dartmouth would be Film & Media Studies.
Definitely leaning towards NU for its location and its more extensive film program/industry connections, but Dartmouth’s close-knit community and outstanding attention given to undergrads appeals to me as well. Dartmouth also has plenty of successful alumni in the film industry.
Does anyone have an opinion on these schools? Especially those who are studying film at either of the two. Thank you!
@anxiousturtle99 Personally, I’d pick Northwestern. Just the spectrum of theater and film-related activities there is outstanding. All the resources available at Chicago is just a train ride away as well.

Dartmouth is great for its undergrad focus, but it’s not like Northwestern is lacking in that department. In fact, NU’s dean at Weinberg is a recent star hire from Dartmouth, and the new provost is the current dean of Yale College (also, president Shapiro was the previous president of Williams, so he knows what good undergrad focus is):

Northwestern is better for your intended field of study, but is cost an issue? I would be cautious about going into six figures debt anywhere for a film degree.
Thank you for the replies! @WildestDream Cost is the same at both schools, and I’m getting no aid. Of course that’s a big sacrifice from my parents but they want what’s best for me.
