Northwestern vs. OSU

Ok, well i'm only a junior and i'm starting to think about colleges. My stats are pretty solid (check I Am Only Applying To Northwestern thread) and i think i have a good chance to get into Northwestern early decision with around $10,000 in student loans at the end of college. On the other hand, Ohio State (honors) is practically a shoe in and i will hopefully be national merit finalist (PSAT 230) which will cover all costs and give me a stipend of $4500 even though i dont really need it.

Well, the problem is, as of now i want to be an actuary where school prestige has zero effect on job placement but at the same time, i still want the option to maybe get into the consulting/ibanking field where going to a top school like Northwestern is practically necessary. Also, becoming an actuary is not an easy feat so if i do decide to OSU and dont pass actuary exams then i'm screwed. Well not really but i would have been better off if i went to Northwestern.

I would rather go to Northwestern, but i dont want to burden my parents with paying off college fees when they dont need to. Also I am may (highly unlikely) go to grad school.

BTW, I plan to double major in with industrial engineering and OSU is ranked around 15 while Northwestern is 7. Will that make a difference.

And is there a lot of segragation at Northwestern because as an asian male i have white, black, oriental, latino, and asian friends and i want to keep it that way.

I know this is a pretty long post and you guys are probably busy advising seniors on which college so i understand if i dont get responses. But responses will be grateful .

Thanks for reading!

Why don't you just apply to both and see what happens?

Are you saying that NU will cost you $10,000.00 more than tOSU over four years? For a mere $2500.00 more per year you definitely want to go to NU! It's far more prestigous than tOSU and Evanston/Chicago is a far superior experience to C-bus.

lssd2012, I want to be an actuary too! And I'm a junior in high school. Well, I'm going to visit Northwestern this week (on Thursday to be exact) and check out the school.

My vote is apply to both. I'm looking at the financial stuff and you never know what will happen. I will probably apply in-state at UMich and MSU. Then some Chicago-area colleges: Northwestern, DePaul, UChicago.
