Northwestern pretty much gave me nothing. Parents have decided not to take the giant fed plus loan. Tulane has given me a 25k/year scholarship.

Both have great cities. Northwestern offers a lot in regards to academics and opportunities, but Tulane has a good community feel, is less divided, and would be a more relaxing four years. I'm thinking about pre-med and Tulane offers a couple of tracks with early acceptance into their med school. So where should I go?

Northwestern no doubt. Such a better school.

but for the price, i’d head to Tulane

NU is not worth 100k more than Tulane.

Just piling on with the other 2 replies. If you put $100,000 aside over those 4 years, think about what a difference that would make when you have to pay for med school.

Tulane’s a lot better than some people give it credit for. No doubt NU is more selective and wins most head-to-head matchups on pure academics. But the gap isn’t that huge, in fact I would say it is rather small. For example, if you ignore USNWR rnakings and just look at the admissions stats of students, Tulane would rank #30. Obviously the profs are highly capable, so what would you really get out of NU that you cannot get at Tulane? Also you will be in Tulane’s Honors Program. The statistics of the students in the HP are equal to or better than the average NU student.

Having said that, there are always intangibles that can make or break an experience. I hope you had a chance to visit Tulane and determine that you would most likely be comfortable there at the very least. Sounds like you did, but you didn’t actually say you did. If so, and you know you could be happy there, then on balance Tulane would be the better choice based on what you say. Coming out of undergrad with large debt, or with $100K less to put to med school even if your parents don’t have to take on debt, is foolish unless you are quite wealthy.
