I am a high school student from Beijing. I recently got offers from UCB and Northwestern. I study economics and finance..I considered many factors like academics, students faculty ratio, weather, quality of student, food, daily life, and was wondering which school best fit me.

The academics will be good and high-priority at both universities.

The student/faculty ratio will probably be better at Northwestern. I’ve heard of basic classes at UCB with hundreds of students in them that sound excessively large even for a big public university.

The weather will probably be better at UCB. Northwestern is in the Chicago metro area, which has some of the worst winter weather of any place in the US.

The quality of students will be very high at both universities.

The food shouldn’t really be a factor and probably wouldn’t be significantly better at either location.

I think you could find a bit more about the daily life by researching each university or simply visiting the forums for them on here.

Keep in mind that Northwestern only has an economics major, while UCB offers finance.

thanks…i will think over it later

Berkeley has a nice ring to it.

Plus, Berkeley is a great name, don’t forget it’s an Ivy.
Congratulations !
How did you get in ? Do you think I can get into ? this is my profile : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/909747-can-i-get-into-nyu-yale.html
Thank you, congratulations, again.

Berkeley is not an ivy

But why NU has higher rank? and why it is harder to get into than UCB. Many of my classmates get enrolled into Berkeley but rejected by NU. They advised me to go to NU instead of UCB. I am rather confused.

Sorry, I forgot it was not an Ivy, but it’s still the 3rd best in the world : [ARWU 2009](http://www.arwu.org/ARWU2009.jsp)

lol, i like how London School of Economics and Peking University are ranked 200~300 in that also.

NU also has industrial engineering & management sciences (IEMS), business institute certificate, and Kellogg certificate. As far as flexibility goes, it is easy to double-major or even triple-major…etc within/across engineering and arts & sciences schools. The majority of IEMS students double-major in econ.

thanks for your information…Actually i have decided NU yesterday, mainly because of its cpu. Is cpu very hard to get in ?
